Hi Kami, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Steve and I always dreamed of buying a sailboat and traveling the world, but it was supposed to be our retirement plan. For 15 years, we saved, worked multiple jobs, and invested in real estate to make it happen. Then, around the time COVID hit, we thought, why wait? So we bought a 2013 sailing catamaran, sold everything we owned, and spent a year and a half sailing the Caribbean with our four kids. We eventually sold that boat, hoping to find a different one, but never did. Three years later, we’re finally back on the water aboard a Leopard 50 catamaran, this time with the goal of sailing around the world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When we purchased our first sailboat, we were pretty inexperienced. We later learned that it had been through a hurricane and suffered extensive water damage and a broken mast. The boat had essentially been taken apart and put back together, and we spent an abnormal amount of our first year fixing one thing after another. At one point, a hurricane was headed our way while we sat at anchor with two broken engines, a broken watermaker, a broken generator, and a pretty defeated husband. The silver lining was that because our lows were so low, our highs felt even higher. It brought our family closer than ever, and our struggles made for some pretty entertaining stories, unexpected adventures, and unforgettable memories.

Steve spent 15 years as a firefighter for Boise, Idaho while also running his own real estate company. He left both of those jobs when we went sailing. Upon coming home he always wanted to be a builder, so him and his partner started The Home Building Company. They work on new home builds and remodels.
My number 1 job has always been being a stay at home mom, but I also am a Relationships Coach part time.
We are both lucky to be able to do our jobs remotely while sailing.
