Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiran Reddy.
Hi Kiran, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Reddy Consulting really grew out of both my professional experience and how I was raised.
I grew up in an immigrant, entrepreneurial family, so business was always very real to me. I understood early that time is money, and relationships and trust matter.
I carried that perspective into my legal career. Over more than a decade, I worked with startups, private equity-backed companies, and growing businesses. In my career, I began to see a gap in how legal services were traditionally delivered. Businesses didn’t always need a lengthy legal memo or someone simply telling them “no.” They needed someone who understood the business, could explain the risk, and could help them figure out the right path forward.
That became the foundation for Reddy Consulting.
I started Reddy Consulting in August 2021. I had spent years working as in-house counsel for technology companies, and I realized many growing companies needed experienced legal support but weren’t necessarily ready for, or didn’t need, a full-time General Counsel.
I knew I could fill that gap by providing the kind of practical, embedded legal support I had provided from inside companies, but on a fractional basis.
There wasn’t a big launch or an elaborate business plan. I started with a few trusted clients and relationships I had built throughout my career. From there, the business grew organically. Former colleagues and leaders knew how I worked, trusted me, referred me to others, and sometimes became clients themselves. Those relationships have been one of the most important parts of building Reddy Consulting.
Over the past five years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with companies across technology, SaaS, higher education, and other industries. I was helping these companies with commercial contracts, privacy, compliance, corporate governance, and the everyday legal issues that come with running and growing a business.
Reddy Consulting has also grown alongside me. I started it as a brand-new mother, and since then I’ve navigated changes in my career and life while continuing to build the business. That experience has probably reinforced one of the principles I started with: businesses need advisors who understand that the answer isn’t always black and white. Sometimes you have to understand the circumstances, assess the risk, and find the best path forward.
That is still the philosophy behind Reddy Consulting today. I don’t believe a lawyer’s job is simply to tell a business, “No, you can’t do that.” My role is to understand what the client is trying to accomplish, explain the risks and options, and help them find a practical way forward.
Looking back, Reddy Consulting wasn’t born from a grand plan to start a traditional law firm. It grew from my upbringing, my experience working inside businesses, and a belief that legal services could be delivered differently: practically, collaboratively, and with a real understanding of the business behind the legal question.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I think a lot of the challenges have shaped what Reddy Consulting is today.
One of the biggest challenges has been figuring out balance and, more importantly, what balance actually means for me. I started Reddy Consulting during my second week of maternity leave, so I have never really known entrepreneurship without also being a mother. I quickly learned that I couldn’t maintain the same calendar, commitments, and expectations I had for myself before becoming a mom.
I had to become much more intentional about where I spend my time and what I say yes to. Reddy Consulting is also a business built around my own experience and judgment, so there is always the question of how much I can take on while still providing the level of service I want to give my clients and having time for the other parts of my life that matter to me.
There have also been some unexpected career turns along the way. After experiencing a layoff, I began seriously considering whether I could grow Reddy Consulting into my full-time career. I started taking on more clients, almost entirely through word of mouth, and decided it was time to really invest in the business. Ironically, the same day I launched the Reddy Consulting website, I was offered another full-time position.
I ultimately decided I didn’t have to choose one or the other. Having the stability and benefits of a full-time role was important to me as a parent, while continuing to build Reddy Consulting allowed me to keep developing something that was mine. Learning that my path doesn’t have to fit neatly into one box has probably been one of the biggest lessons of this journey.
Another challenge has been keeping pace with how quickly technology is changing the way we work. When I started Reddy Consulting in 2021, the technology available to lawyers and businesses looked very different from what it does today. AI in particular has created incredible opportunities to work more efficiently, but it has also introduced entirely new questions around privacy, security, governance, and risk.
I’ve had to evolve along with that technology. I want to take advantage of tools that allow me to provide better and more efficient service, while remembering that clients aren’t hiring me simply to produce a contract or give them information. They’re hiring me for judgment, context, experience, and an understanding of their business.
If anything, the challenges along the way have taught me to be more comfortable with change. I used to think much further ahead and have very defined ideas of what the next five or ten years should look like. Today, I’m much more comfortable allowing both my career and Reddy Consulting to evolve as opportunities, technology, and life change.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Reddy Consulting, LLC?
Reddy Consulting provides practical, business-minded legal support to companies and organizations that need experienced counsel without necessarily needing a traditional law firm or a full-time legal department.
A large part of our work is with technology and SaaS companies, which is where I’ve spent much of my career. We specialize in commercial contracts and negotiations, data privacy and compliance, AI governance, due diligence, transaction support, and fractional General Counsel services. We also work with companies, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations on formation, governance, compliance, and strategic legal needs.
What sets Reddy Consulting apart is that we approach legal issues from inside the business, not outside of it. I’ve spent much of my career as in-house counsel and General Counsel, so when a client brings me a problem, my first question isn’t simply, “What does the law say?” I want to understand what they’re trying to accomplish, why it matters to the business, and what level of risk actually makes sense in that context.
One phrase we use at Reddy Consulting is that we “see the gray.” Business decisions are rarely completely black and white. There may be a legally perfect answer, but that doesn’t always mean it’s the right business answer. Our job is to help clients understand the risk, weigh it against the opportunity, and make an informed decision.
We’re also very intentional about being accessible and human. Our tagline is “Legal expertise without the ego,” and I’m probably most proud of that part of the brand because it reflects how I believe legal services should feel. You can be experienced, sophisticated, and very good at what you do without making legal unnecessarily intimidating or complicated.
I also think our size is an advantage. We’re able to meet clients where they are. Sometimes a client needs ongoing fractional General Counsel support. Sometimes they need help negotiating a major agreement, building a privacy program, preparing for a transaction, or simply calling someone they trust and saying, “I have this situation. What do you think?”
Ultimately, I want people to know that Reddy Consulting isn’t about giving clients more legal work. It’s about helping them move their business forward. We listen first, understand the goal, identify the risks, and then work with the client to find a practical path forward.
That’s what I’m most proud of building: a legal brand that is experienced and sophisticated, but still approachable, collaborative, and human.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to focus my energy on what I can control.
I experienced two layoffs almost exactly a year apart. Both were business decisions completely outside my control, and that was difficult for someone like me, who had always been very intentional about my career and where I thought I was headed.
The first time, my focus was largely on finding the next job and getting back on the path I had planned. When it happened again a year later, I started looking at things differently. I couldn’t control the job market. I couldn’t control decisions being made inside companies. But I could control what I did next.
That’s when I really started leaning into Reddy Consulting and seeing it differently. It wasn’t just something I was building on the side. It was something I had created that no employer could take away from me. I had relationships I had developed over years, clients who trusted me, and skills and experience that I could use to create opportunities for myself while helping others.
And what I kept coming back to was something I’ve always been good at and genuinely enjoy: helping people solve problems.
That shift changed the way I think about both my business and my career. I still have a full-time legal career, and I continue to grow Reddy Consulting alongside it. For me, it isn’t necessarily about choosing one path over the other. It’s about knowing that I’ve built something of my own that is rooted in my experience, my relationships, and the value I can provide to others.
I’ve learned that resilience isn’t always about pushing harder against something you can’t change. Sometimes it’s accepting what is outside of your control and putting that energy toward the things you can influence, the relationships you can build, the people you can help, and the opportunities you can create for yourself.
That has probably been the most important lesson of this entire journey.
