Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Lacey.
Hi Amanda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been creating jewelry for more than 12 years, but about three years ago, I transitioned into making bags. The art of bag making had always intrigued me, but for a long time, fear kept me from learning. Eventually, my curiosity outweighed that fear, and I decided to explore the construction side of bag making. That process is what continues to fascinate me most—the ability to take what starts as a simple pile of beads and transform it into a fully functional, wearable accessory. Seeing that transformation come to life continues to inspire me to create, experiment, and make something new.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been learning to be patient with myself and understanding that I wasn’t going to know everything all at once. My first few bags were far from perfect, especially when it came to their structure and construction. It was frustrating at times, but those early mistakes became some of my most valuable learning experiences. Each mistake showed me what needed to be improved and gave me an opportunity to try again. Instead of allowing those challenges to discourage me, I used them as a way to grow, refine my techniques, and become more confident in my craft.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Q&X Designs specializes in custom beaded accessories, with custom beaded handbags being our signature offering. As I continue to grow in this craft, I’ve become increasingly interested in every step of the creative process, from the initial concept to the finished piece. My favorite part of the journey is drawing a design and then bringing that vision to life through beading. There’s something exciting about watching an idea on paper gradually transform into a tangible, functional accessory. Each design challenges me to think creatively, learn new techniques, and find ways to turn an idea into something that can actually be worn and enjoyed. That process of creating, experimenting, and learning is what continues to push me to learn more about my craft.
