Inspiring Conversations with Nina Ward of KC Classic Gourmet Foods

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nina Ward.

Hi Nina , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
-We make delicious cheese dips sold in 100 locations in the US.
-Nina(right) started in 86’ in her R&D journey to make our
family’s taco sauce in mass production. Through the years, she
has found small batches are best. To which, she has developed
some of her favorite recipes to perfection & created KCC Cheese
Dips. Rosina(left) is following her mom’s footsteps learning how
to cook, and work as a sales coordinator selling & marketing
Raspberry Jalapeno Dip!
-As a team we make small batches of KC Classic Cheese Dips in
a variety of flavors in our small FDA Regulated Facility in MO.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We overcome challenges daily, from blowing a water catch valve in our filling machine recently to keeping up with demand of growing market share every quarter. We have also had many cashflow issues up until this year we have mainly done only wholesale. In the recent months we have started advertising through social media for our website, and the cash has become much better. It has been school of hard knocks from the beginning so learning to move through adversity has been a constant, but Nina is persistent, so we are still hiding the waves.

We’ve been impressed with KC Classic Gourmet Foods, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
KC Classics was founded on the creativity and knowledge of knowing how to process foods in small batches with big flavors. We make the best shelf stable cheese dip from cream cheese on the market. Our Raspberry Jalapeno Dip is our most popular , it can be found in Hen House Markets deli department, HyVee, local kitchen & gourmet stores.

What matters most to you?
Our family, Nina has one daughter and three grandsons. All of which have been raised in our facility outside of school, sports and extracurricular activities. This is the legacy. This journey began with a family restaurant in the 80’s, where Nina would wait tables, her father and mother would run back of house. Years later people still talk about the great memories and food the place had to offer.
