Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Lane.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a child, I was hurriedly scribbling drawings of animals with big sharp teeth; As a teenager, I was constantly making marks in my sketchbook; In my 20s, I developed a business for my artwork and gained a world of experience; And now, I run HaleyLaneArt, creating a world full of monsters.
I never thought of myself as an “Artist”, I thought that was something that had to be earned and maybe assigned to you by a few people in decorative cloaks. I can promise you it has now been earned, and there were no decorative cloaks, but instead many encouraging friends and faces that helped me to believe in my own ability and identity as an “Artist”, galleries that thought I was worth a place, and shops that admired my products enough to present them in their own space.
In 2019, I was commissioned by a neighbor named Taylor (Thank you, Taylor), for a sculpture after she saw my work desk. Following her encouragement and a series of projects for other neighbors, I established my own online store and started promotion online. Now, my handmade monsters have been viewed by millions, WOAH!
Now, 7 years later, I have been able to gain a huge list of self taught fabrication methods and business experience. Whether it be driving an Aerial Lift Rental to reach a project or 3D Modeling at my desk, I am always eager to make an impression. I have had my monsters adopted by over 4000 homes and even some famous ones! And have had the chance to work with amazing businesses like our local Bubble Wrapp or a bit further away at Leroy’s Place in Brooklyn and New Orleans!
My most recent project has been the front-facing wall of Bubble Wrapp at their new location at 3816 Main St KCMO and my most well known creation of all time is my Monster Mirror© products!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path to establishing my brand and maintaining it has certainly not always been an easy road. Between IP infringement, business management, and finding ways to monetize my best talents, I have learned every year a better way to run things, and ways to better protect the future of my business. There is also a deeply human aspect to my business as it is run solely by me. This means some days, I am my own greatest obstacle. Despite it all, I fight every day to make everything on my constantly-growing to make list.

I am most proud of the knowledge that these abilities have been gained from personal drive for wanting to explore and learn, and self-taught. Every project has been an assignment for me, and I appreciate the chance to be a constantly-learning student while also being my self-paced teacher and manager.
My most known creations are from my Monster Mirror© product line and I am recognized for absolutely bold, toothy, and incredibly furry creations.
I believe my originality sets me apart and that creating for an audience comes with a responsibility to maintain integrity to your audience and also to yourself.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite apps of all time are Nomad Sculpt for its super user-friendly interface and also Procreate for easily translating my ideas from inside of my head to an image. Good music while creating is also an absolute necessity.
