Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn May.
Hi Kaitlyn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At 13 years old, I starting my journey with autoimmune diseases. Taking two years, thousands of testing, and my mom adamantly telling my doctors and team she is not taking me home without any answers at 15 years old, I finally received a diagnosis.
One was your gallbladder is dead. We need to take it out immediately. And secondly you have an auto immune disorder called primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) as well as ulcerative colitis (UC). PSC is a rare, chronic liver disease where the bile ducts inside and outside the liver become inflamed, scarred, and narrowed. This blocks bile flow, leading to liver damage and potential cirrhosis. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms, and a liver transplant is the only cure for advanced cases. UC found in 70-80% of PSC patients, is a long-term inflammatory bowel disease. It causes chronic inflammation and tiny open sores, called ulcers.
Into my adulthood, I experience blood clots as well as multiple TIA strokes, and later found out that I also have a autoimmune disorder called Medium Vessel Vasculitis restricted to my lower extremity blood vessels and the blood vessels in my brain.
So you can imagine the amount of medications I was on from infusions to blood thinners to antibiotics to steroids, there were a lot! And with that there were a lot of side effects ones that made it near impossible to continue taking the medication they were prescribing me.
That’s when I found Seamoss and my holistic journey started.
I started Seamoss Sanctuary KC LLC because I wanted to share something that has made a positive impact on my own wellness journey. Living with chronic health challenges has taught me the importance of being intentional about what I put into my body. That experience inspired me to create products that make it easier for others to incorporate nutrient-rich foods into their everyday lives.
My goal has always been bigger than selling seamoss—it’s about educating people, encouraging healthier habits, and helping my community discover natural ways to support their overall wellness. Seeing customers tell me they feel more energized, are eating healthier, or are simply making wellness a priority is what motivates me every day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For me the best quote that would explain my journey is “nothing in life is linear.”
There have been highs and lows.
And when we’re discussing the highs, it’s the days you sell out, the days you get numerous orders out of the blue you were never expecting, the days where you’re able to meet people and explain what you do and listen to their story as they’re listening to you and the amount of joy receiving thanks for being in this space doing what I do is unmatched.
Of course there are days where you don’t have any sales, people are scared to taste or sample your products, or on the other side of what I deal with health issues arise.
I’m actually just getting back into the swing of things after a two month break due to a PSC flare, sometimes you just have to slow down and listen to your body, those are the times you can take to think, create a plan, and organize it so when you’re ready, you’re truly ready!
Those not so good days are always made up in full on the good days and then some.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make Seamoss gel and Seamoss infused hydration juices. As well as offer ionic foot detoxes.
Seamoss is a type of algae that has been used for generations in Caribbean and Irish cultures as a natural food source. It contains essential minerals, including iodine, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc, along with naturally occurring fiber and antioxidants. While seamoss isn’t a cure or treatment for disease, it can be a nutritious addition to a balanced diet.
Seamoss is known to help:
Healthy thyroid function through its natural iodine content.
Normal digestive health by providing soluble fiber that can promote gut health.
Immune system function by supplying vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Skin health and hydration due to its naturally occurring minerals.
Energy production by helping the body meet its daily nutrient needs.
Rid the body of stuck mucus.
Promote oxygen and blood flow.
An ionic foot detox involves placing the feet in warm water while a specialized device creates a gentle ionic current. Many of my clients report feeling refreshed, more relaxed, or experiencing an overall sense of wellness after a session, improved sleep, and decreased inflammation.
For me, wellness is about consistency, education, and giving people better options to nourish their bodies—one jar or detox at a time.
