Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Skinner.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey to starting JS Wellness was nearly 30 years in the making. I spent the bulk of my career in traditional healthcare, and kept seeing the same gap – healthcare treats sickness and doesn’t do well at wellness and prevention. Patients are given a prescription that addresses symptoms but not the cause or they are told their labs are “normal” when they don’t feel well.
I knew there was a better way to practice, one that started with actually listening, running comprehensive labs, and treating the whole person. So I opened JS Wellness in Eudora – deliberately small and deliberately personal.
The boutique model was intentional from day one. When you’re my patient, you see me at every appointment. I know your labs, your history, and what actually worked last time. That continuity is rare in healthcare today, and it’s what patients tell me matters most.
What started as a hormone therapy and weight loss practice has grown into something more integrated – we now offer a full aesthetic menu alongside the medical side, so patients don’t have to drive to three different providers. We’re on Main street in Eudora, about 15 minutes from Lawrence and De Soto, serving patients from across the KC metro.
I’m proud of what we’ve built – not because of how big it is, but because of what it isn’t. It’s not a franchise. It’s not a revolving door. It’s a relationship with every patient who walks through the door.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think anyone who says opening a small business in a small town is easy isn’t being fully honest. My biggest fear was simple: will anyone come? Eudora is a wonderful community, but it’s a small town. I was betting that patients would drive for a different kind of care – more personal, more thorough.
What got me through those early days were patients who had trusted me throughout my career and found me when I opened JS Wellness. That loyalty meant everything – it gave me a foundation to build from and the confidence to keep going. From there, word of mouth took over. In a small town, when you’re doing right by people, it travels fast.
Looking back, the small – town location turned out to be a feature, not a limitation. It forced me to stay boutique, stay personal, and stay focused on what really matters – the patient in front of me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about JS Wellness?
JS Wellness is a boutique wellness and aesthetic clinic on Main St in Eudora. We offer bioidentical hormone therapy, testosterone replacement, medically supervised weight loss, and a full aesthetic menu including botox, dermal filler, sculptra, laser services, microneedling, and hydrafacials. All under one roof with one provider on the medical side- and two exceptional licensed estheticians rounding out our aesthetic team.
The last part is what we’re known for. We get to know our patients, we listen and customize care to what you need. Never a one size fits all protocol. We strive for natural results that keep you feeling and looking your best.
What sets us apart is the integration of wellness and aesthetics, we see the whole picture and connect your care. That continuity is rare and it’s why our patients drive past closer options to get here.
Small-town care. Big-city results – and a genuine relationship with every patient who walks through the door.
What’s next?
My plans are less about growing bigger and more about growing better. What I’m focused on is staying ahead of what’s emerging in wellness-hormone therapy, peptides, weight loss, and aesthetics, so my patients always have access to the best options.
I’m also excited by the growing awareness around men and women’s hormone health. More patients are advocating for themselves and refusing to accept “normal” as an answer when they don’t feel normal. That shift is bringing patients to us who might not have sought this kind of care a few years ago, and it’s exciting to be part of that.
Mostly though, I feel incredibly blessed. The patients who found us, trust us, and keep coming back – and the community that has embraced what we’re doing in this little town on Main St – I don’t take any of that for granted. If I can keep showing up every day and genuinely making a difference for the people I see, that’s everything I could ask for.
