Alexia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Prettiest Pixel was founded in 2007 with a passion for design, a background in print, and two young children in tow. What began as a creative venture grew from a love of beautiful paper and thoughtful design into a boutique luxury wedding stationery studio.
With years of experience in print design, transitioning into luxury wedding stationery was a natural fit. The tactile nature of paper, the artistry of typography and illustration, and the opportunity to create something deeply personal for each couple brought together everything that made design meaningful.
From the very beginning, Prettiest Pixel has been rooted in craftsmanship, creativity, and an appreciation for the details that make an occasion unforgettable. Each invitation suite is thoughtfully designed to tell a couple’s story and set the tone for their celebration—from the first impression in the mailbox to the keepsake pieces treasured long after the wedding day.
What started in 2007 as a creative pursuit while raising two young children has grown into a design studio built on nearly two decades of experience. Today, Prettiest Pixel continues to blend timeless design with modern sophistication, creating elevated wedding stationery that feels personal, intentional, and beautifully considered.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Built From $100—and Built to Last
Prettiest Pixel was never built with a large startup investment. It started in 2007 with just $100, two young children, and a determination to build something meaningful from the skills and creativity I already had.
Growing a business from the ground up came with its share of challenges. Every investment had to be intentional. Revenue wasn’t simply income—it was capital that needed to be carefully managed, reinvested, and stretched to move the business forward. Equipment, software, materials, marketing, education, and the countless behind-the-scenes expenses of running a creative business all required planning and sacrifice.
Then came COVID-19.
The wedding industry was turned upside down almost overnight. Celebrations were postponed, venues closed, guest lists changed, and invitation orders were rescheduled again and again. Couples were navigating an incredibly uncertain time, and Prettiest Pixel was navigating it alongside them. Orders that had been planned months in advance suddenly needed to be paused, redesigned, reprinted, or moved to entirely new dates.
It was a challenging chapter—but it also reinforced why the business mattered.
Prettiest Pixel had always been built on relationships, adaptability, and a commitment to seeing things through. During a time when so much was uncertain, the goal was to remain flexible for clients while protecting the foundation of the business. Every decision—from reserving capital to reinvesting in new tools and capabilities—was made with the long-term future of Prettiest Pixel in mind.
Nearly two decades later, that original $100 investment represents something much bigger. It represents resourcefulness, persistence, and the willingness to keep building—even when the path forward wasn’t always clear.
Prettiest Pixel wasn’t built overnight. It was built order by order, client by client, reinvestment by reinvestment, and challenge by challenge. And that history is part of what makes the business what it is today: a small business with a big commitment to beautiful work, exceptional service, and the people who trust us with some of life’s most important moments.

Building a Business Around the Work That Matters
As Prettiest Pixel has grown, I’ve learned that protecting the creative process is just as important as growing the business. Initially, as a one-person operation, I spent years wearing every hat—designer, production manager, customer service, bookkeeper, marketer, project manager, and everything in between. Eventually, I realized that my greatest value is in the work only I can do: creating the art, overseeing the printing, managing in-house production, and making sure every piece meets the standard we’ve built our reputation on.
That meant intentionally outsourcing the backend of the business. Rather than trying to become an expert in every area, I’ve built a network of fractional team members, contractors, and specialized partners who support development, finances, marketing, and other operational needs. Automation and clearly defined workflows help keep those moving parts organized, while outside expertise allows each area of the business to receive the attention it deserves without taking me away from the creative work.
The result is a business model designed around quality over quantity. By delegating the backend, I’m able to stay deeply involved with my team in the art, printing, assembly, and finishing of every order. Keeping production in-house means we can inspect every piece, catch the smallest imperfections, and remain accountable for every detail before it reaches a client. For Prettiest Pixel, outsourcing isn’t about stepping away from the business—it’s about creating the structure that allows me to be more present where it matters most: the craftsmanship, artistry, and quality of every piece we produce.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is watching my mother and father transform an acre of land into a breathtaking botanical garden. My father hand-made more than 22,000 bricks for a beautifully crafted walking path, while my mother created the most phenomenal perennial garden I’ve ever seen. I watched them dedicate themselves to the work, to the land, and to each other, turning something ordinary into something truly extraordinary. Their creativity, perseverance, attention to detail, and incredible work ethic became the foundation of how I approach my own work today—and ultimately, the foundation of Prettiest Pixel.
