Conversations with Ashley Jewell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Jewell.

Hi Ashley, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started A.S.H. Vintage in 2018. I wanted an outlet for styling and creativity and I wanted to be a small part of a garments journey. I’ve always loved older antiques, older clothing, anything vintage so getting to do something with that is really fulfilling for me. There’s so many pieces that I find so cool, and getting to alter them, and style them in whatever way I want is so cool. Clothing is a form of expression, and I feel so lucky to be able to help other people find things that make them feel like their true selves. Obviously, sourcing everything second hand is also very important to me. There is so much clothing waste in the world right now, and in the fashion industry. Taking preloved items and giving them new life is something I am very much passionate about.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not always a smooth road. Starting a business, no matter how small is always a challenge, but vintage fashion is something I’ll always be passionate about and for me it’s a no brainer to keep striving to make A.S.H. a safe place that celebrates individuality, and is an outlet for not just me, but for everyone that shops there.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Aside from owning A.S.H. , I am a stylist. I worked at a local boutique as their creative director and stylist for over 5 years and that was a dream. I still style photoshoots off and on, it’s definitely one of my passions. I loved creating a story, or a character in my head and making that vision come to life right in front of me with the set, clothing, accessories. ect.

My 9-5 is in marketing though. I am the Marketing Coordinator for KU Memorial Unions. During the week you can find me there working on many creative projects, including: social media, photography, website design and maintenance, public relations and anything along those lines!

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I am a vegetarian! I don’t think I’ve mentioned that anywhere in my brand.

I also am a huge fan of not just vintage clothing and antiques, but also music. One of my favorite artists of all time is Billie Holiday. I lover her music so much, and her story is so inspiring. I even named my dog after her.
