Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Williams.
Hi Brandon, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Williams Family Ranch and Farms really started from a love of being outdoors, working with our hands, and creating something we could build as a family. I have always enjoyed working with equipment, the land, and growing things, and over time that interest grew into the idea of starting our own tree farm.
We began small, planting around 200 trees in 2024 and learning a lot as we went. We chose to grow our trees in root-control bags, which allows us to produce strong, healthy root systems while still growing the trees naturally in the field. Since then, we’ve continued adding new rows, new varieties, and more inventory. Today we grow more than 30 varieties of shade, ornamental, evergreen, and native trees right here on our farm in Liberty, Missouri.
What started as an idea has slowly turned into a true family business. Our boys get to grow up watching the process—from planting and watering to digging and helping customers choose a tree for their home. We handle nearly every part of the business ourselves, including growing the trees, maintaining the farm, marketing, delivering, and planting.
We’re still very much in the growing stages, but that is probably one of our favorite parts of our story. We get to look back at rows that were once empty and see trees growing there, meet customers who come back for another tree, and watch something we started from the ground up become a little more established every year.
Our goal has never been to become the biggest tree farm. We want to build a business that feels personal, provides quality trees at a fair price, and becomes a trusted local resource for families and businesses in our community. There is something pretty special about knowing that a tree we grew may still be standing in someone’s yard decades from now—and that’s a big part of what keeps us excited about what we’re building.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Starting a business from the ground up comes with a lot of trial and error, especially when you’re also learning the ins and outs of growing trees on a larger scale.
One of our biggest challenges has simply been patience. Trees take time to grow, so unlike many businesses, you can’t create more inventory overnight. We’ve had to learn how to plan several years ahead while still figuring out what varieties people are looking for and what grows best for us.
Weather is another constant challenge. Too much rain, not enough rain, extreme heat, winter conditions—so much of what we do is ultimately affected by things we can’t control. There is also a lot more behind-the-scenes work involved than people probably realize, from maintaining equipment and keeping up with watering and weeds to marketing, deliveries, planting, and managing the business side of things.
We’re also building the farm while raising our two boys and working around everyday family life, and full time work. So finding enough time for everything can be difficult. A lot of the work happens in the evenings and on weekends.
But most of those struggles have also helped shape the business. We’ve learned to adapt, improve how we do things, and not expect everything to happen at once. We’re still learning all the time, and I think that’s just part of building something that you hope will be around for many years.

Williams Family Ranch and Farms is a family-owned tree farm in Liberty, Missouri. We grow more than 30 varieties of trees, including shade trees, ornamentals, evergreens, and native species, with a focus on providing healthy, quality trees that are well suited for our area.
One of the things that sets us apart is the way our trees are grown. Many of our trees are field-grown in root-control bags, which helps encourage a dense, fibrous root system and allows us to transplant them with less root disturbance. We also try to make the tree-buying process feel approachable. Choosing the right tree can be overwhelming, so we enjoy helping customers figure out what will work best for their yard based on things like space, sunlight, soil conditions, growth rate, fall color, and the overall look they want.
In addition to selling trees, we offer delivery and planting services, and other property management and land works including brush hogging, grading, landscape design, and more, which allows customers to have the entire process handled from choosing the tree to getting it in the ground. Because we are a smaller, family-run operation, customers are working directly with us rather than feeling like just another sale.
We are probably most proud of the personal side of our brand. Our farm is something our entire family is building together, and we want that to come through in the way we do business. We care about where our trees end up and want customers to feel comfortable reaching out with questions before and after planting.
We also care a lot about encouraging people to plant more trees and understand the long-term value they bring to a property and a community. A tree isn’t something someone buys for just one season—it can provide shade, beauty, habitat, and memories for decades.
Ultimately, we want Williams Family Ranch and Farms to be known as a local place where people can find quality trees, fair pricing, knowledgeable help, and a more personal experience. Our slogan is “Where our trees are treasures,” and that really sums up how we feel about what we grow. Every tree represents years of care before it ever leaves our farm, and we hope it becomes something equally meaningful wherever it is planted.

More than anything, we’d love for people to know that we’re still growing—both literally and as a business. We’re constantly adding new trees, learning, improving, and dreaming up what we want the farm to become in the years ahead.
