Life & Work with Mattone Beats of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mattone Beats.

Hi Mattone, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Mattone, better known as Mattone Beats. I’m a producer out of Kansas City, and I’ve always been into music and creating shit from scratch. My sound is mainly R&B, trap, soul, and atmospheric stuff, but I don’t like putting myself in a box because I’m always experimenting and trying different things. For me, it’s really about creating a vibe and making something people can actually feel. I’m still building, still learning, and still figuring out exactly where this is going, but I know I’ve got something to say through my music and I’m just focused on getting it heard, I feel like it reaches my people organically.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing worth having comes easy. I have had to deal with slow days, headaches, death, incarnations, and a plethora of other obstacles people may see as a “wrench in the works”, I see them as tools that have sharpened me as a person and musician over time. When you look at the bigger picture, you gotta show just as much gratitude to the tough times as you do the good times. Those tough times can teach you how to appreciate the good times.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Im Mattone Beats, a music producer and creative. I specialize in making hip-hop and R&B production, but I don’t like putting myself in one box. I really just try to create a sound that makes you feel something and gives an artist room to be themselves.

I think what Im known for or what Im building my name around, is having my own vision. Im not just trying to make beats and send them out. Im building Mattone Beats into a real brand. Music is the foundation, but I see it going way beyond that with things like sound libraries, merch, visuals, and other creative ideas.

What Im most proud of is honestly how far I’ve come creatively. I had to figure a lot of this out on my own, and Im still learning and building every day. I take pride in the fact that I actually care about the details. Whether its the beat, the artwork, the branding, or the overall presentation, I want everything connected to Mattone Beats to feel like it came from the same world.

What sets me apart is that Im not just thinking about the next beat or the next sale. Im thinking long-term. I want to build something that people can recognize before they even see my name on it. Im still building, but I know the vision is bigger than just being another producer online.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memories are probably just being around my uncles and older cousins. At one point, we all lived in the same household, so I basically grew up with them.

They were also some of the first people to hear my music, critique it, and really build my confidence up. They made me believe I was dope as hell before I even fully believed it myself. I remember being around 14 or 15 years old and actually selling my music because my family had already made me feel like I had something special. Looking back that support and confidence they gave me is something Im gonna always appreciate.
