Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Garcia.
Lucy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ever since I got engaged, I’ve always loved having our photos taken. We had two engagement sessions and two wedding sessions, and through that experience, I realized how much I truly valued having those memories captured. At the same time, I never realized how expensive professional photography could be, and it was sometimes difficult for us to get the photos we wanted without spending so much.
That’s what initially sparked my interest in photography. I fell in love with the idea of being able to take my own photos whenever I wanted, while also having the opportunity to capture meaningful moments for other people. I’ve always felt like I have a good eye for noticing the little moments and details that make a photo feel special and authentic.
What started as something I simply enjoyed has grown into something I’m genuinely passionate about. I love creating images that feel nostalgic, storytelling , cinematic and true to the people in them, and I’m so grateful that I’ve been able to turn that passion into my photography business.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. In the beginning, it was pretty challenging because I had no idea what I was doing. I’m basically self taught, and honestly, I’m still teaching myself and learning as I go. There’s always something new to learn, whether it’s with my camera, editing, or simply figuring out what works best for me.
Another struggle I’ve had is comparing my work to other photographers. I used to constantly look at what others were doing and try to make my work look like theirs. Over time, though, I’ve realized that I have to stay true to myself and the style I’m creating rather than trying to replicate someone else’s.
Despite those challenges, I’ve received so much support and encouragement from the people around me, and that has truly helped me grow and keep going. I’m still learning, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited to see where this journey takes me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I absolutely love photographing couples. My goal is to create images that feel like they came straight out of a movie, cinematic, romantic, and full of emotion. I want my photos to tell a story and capture moments that you can truly feel, not just look at. I want couples to be able to look back at their gallery years from now and feel like they’ve been brought right back to that moment.
I’m also passionate about creating an experience that feels like so much more than just a photography session. I don’t want couples to feel like they’re simply posing in front of a camera for an hour. I want it to feel more like a fun, comfortable hangout where they can be themselves, laugh, interact, and genuinely enjoy being together. The photos are just a way of preserving those moments.
I think what sets me apart most is my personality and the connection I’m able to create with my clients. I can usually make people feel comfortable pretty quickly, even if they’re nervous or not used to being in front of a camera. I want my clients to feel like they’re spending time with a friend rather than just showing up for a photo session.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve been able to create a style that feels like *me* cinematic storytelling that is romantic, authentic, and full of feeling.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about our city is the variety of beautiful fields and open spaces we have. They fit my photography aesthetic so well, especially when I’m looking for something natural, romantic, and timeless.
If there’s one thing I wish we had more of, it would be European inspired architecture. I love that old world, romantic look and feel, and I think having more of that style here would be amazing for photography!
