Daily Inspiration: Meet Richey Huffman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richey Huffman.

Hi Richey , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, When I was a kid, my dad bought me a small little camera, nothing special but I liked it, Years would go by & I’d still have a camera, but in 2018 my friend ” Dave ” let me borrow his camera at our local air show. It was my first dslr I ever used! To say the least I was hooked. I would go onto purchasing my first dslr a nikon d3400. I loved it! Took it everywhere & was starting to get noticed by people like Silver Dollar City. That motivated me to create my photography page on Facebook ” Richey’s Haggard 1 Photography ” It’s helped me reach tons of people & create some lasting friendships! The best piece of advice I’ve received was in Des Moines, IA from a local camera shop owner. He asked me about my camera & what lenses I used.? He said, ” are you photographer who has a bunch of lenses & doesn’t know what to do with them…..or you have a few & know what to do with them? ” From that day forward, I tried to be the best photographer I could be. I’m completely self taught, with some advice from friends & YouTube. When I attended an event or anything. I treat it like it’s my job. Few years ago my brother got me into Google Maps reviews & have amassed 100 million views. I’m a foodie & I try to help small local businesses on my page. I work at a local plant in St. Joseph, Mo….but this is my true passion! My camera & my confidence in my photography has upgraded! My camera is currently a Nikon d800 & I recently placed 2nd place overall in my local art contest at Mosaic Hospital for Albrecht Kemper Art Museum, where several of my pics have sold! My favorite hotel in Branson ” Autumn Creek ” has a Richey room, where it displays my pics! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for my photography!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve struggled with everything. Didn’t think I was good enough. I compared myself to others photography. There’s been days where I don’t think anyone notices. I base how good I’am off of Facebook likes & I shouldn’t. Learning the camera was easy. It’s everything else that’s difficult!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I take pics from the crowd. I’m someone who shows up to events & it’s nothing I’m being paid for. I just treat it like it’s my job, I’ve walked into local small businesses & snapped a few photos, posted them to Facebook & the next day they sell out of ice cream. That’s amazing to me. I’ve generally got a love for food & photography & I hope my page reflects that. I want to show the positive in Missouri & not the negative! You never know if I’ll be at local restaurant, theme park, convention or dressed up in one of my award-winning cosplays! My page has everything!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Determination. When I come back from a trip &,I’ve got 1k photos to go through & potentially 400 photos to edit. I gotta be motivated or it’s not gonna happen!
