Today we’d like to introduce you to Luna Isham.
Hi Luna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started doing YouTube videos as a teenager, I grew up in the era of the internet and it looked like a blast. At first my sister and I did a channel together which is now defunct. In college, I began to dedicate a lot more time to it, at the time lifestyle channels and vlogs were all the rage. It took me 5 years of serious dedication before I even broke 100 subscribers. Once I found my footing in making videos about Japanese fashion, I took off even more. Only a couple years ago did I finally break a thousand, one of my very best friends got me into mermaiding and that really helped me refine my aesthetic and niche leading to my now currrent username of Luna By The Lake with Cake. I still do make videos about alternative Japanese fashion and mermaiding and am now pursuing becoming a net idol covering Jpop songs and dances. I also have some minor amateur voice acting experience.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road, I am completely self-produced and don’t have a lot of funds to create what I create. I still work a full time job and balancing that with pursuing my goals in entertainment can be somewhat difficult. I also have some mental health issues and chronic illnesses I have to manage. I have had great success in finding help and care for those things in my community in the past year or so, so I’m hoping to dive back into it with full energy and enthusiasm.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have a variety of interests that I do my best to intertwine, I love mermaiding and conservation as well as fashion and music. I feel as a result I have a very eclectic and unique aesthetic. I combine j-fashion, western alternative fashion, mermaiding, and idol work into a blend that I am still finding my footing in. I am so excited to continue to experiment and combine what I love to present it to the world. One of my proudest achievements is when I got to attend Paradiso in Kansas City and walk for the independent fashion brand Spooky Sparkle Party. I have another modeling gig coming up this fall I am very excited for but I can’t talk about it in detail until it’s been done.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I care about the world and the people in it. In particular the joy and passion people have for being alive and caring for each other and nature. I hope to be able to inspire that through my work. I think having fun matters a great deal for all of us to be our best selves in the world.
