Today we’d like to introduce you to Tania Rounds.
Hi Tania, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My business started from a personal need to help myself both physically and mentally. I grew up with a family of herbalists in the Ozarks, but I took everything for granted until I started having my own issues. I wanted to try to focus on holistic health and found that the “remedies” coming from my traditional doctor didn’t help me very much at all. My love of scent and skincare came into play when I decided to create a small business out of my work in herbalism in 2020. I completed a comprehensive study and apprenticeship in herbalism shortly after I started my business. What I discovered in my research and focus is that there really were not a lot of clean skincare options that were still small businesses within the United States. I found a niche within formulating within the past, focusing on historical skincare products. I recently just created my first facial care product line using formulations from historical Medieval skincare. It was a lot of research and a huge focus on finding the right ingredients. I’ve started researching and I’m so excited to continue growing by formulating more skincare products from the 1600s through 1800s in the near future.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I’ve faced new challenges this year because sales have been down and the events I’ve vended at have been low turnout. I am interested in branching out and working with other small businesses within the Kansas City area. I need to get my products into more small businesses with the same focus on minimalistic, holistic skincare that I do! If you’re out there and reading this – I’d love to work with you. I also have to always have a focus on continual learning – it takes up a lot of my time! I love it, but being constantly busy can be very stressful. You only take this path if you really love it, and clearly, I do.

Ivory Isis Herbals is a small business that’s focused on historic homegrown herbal beauty, bath, body, and home goods products. I’m known for creating products that come from historic recipes with modern updates, and also keeping a sustainable and holistic focus in my work with plants. I think my focus on high product standards, growing most of my own plants used in my products, and sourcing from the knowledge of our ancestors really sets me apart from others. I am the most proud of my Medieval facial skincare line that I just completed about a month ago – it includes a soap-free facial cleanser, historic-based facial toner, and facial oils that are all based on historic formulations. I’d like everyone to know that I am available to work with other small businesses to help them formulate their own herbal products. How do you define success?
I define success by how many people I touch with my products and focus on holistic plant formulations. I’ve been contacted by so many people that love my products, and that is my “why” and how I keep going.
