Exploring Life & Business with Portia Stewart of Mind Full Creatives

Today we’d like to introduce you to Portia Stewart.

Hi Portia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Portia Stewart, BS, RYT 500, RPYT, C-IAYT.

I am a yoga therapist, award-winning journalist, and innovation consultant. I’ve combined innovation and creativity principles and adopted mindfulness practices to launch my business, Mind Full Creatives. I leverage my background leading high-performing media teams to promote well being inside and outside the workplace, speaking to audiences that include women in technology, veterinary professionals, and corporate innovators. I’ve spoken nationally on the topics of creativity and innovation, leading teams to spark innovation within their own companies by leveraging design thinking principles.

My journey with yoga therapy began when my mother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. My mother’s neurologist recommended yoga to help support her condition. As a yoga teacher, I passionately pursued yoga therapy certification to learn to safely support my mother with the tools yoga offers.

In my role as a yoga therapist I currently work with clients who are living with conditions that include multiple sclerosis, excessive kyphosis, sacroiliac issues, addiction and recovery, and anxiety. Working as a yoga therapist has enriched my life and has ignited my calling to make yoga accessible to everyone.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a winding journey with many side paths! I started my career as a journalist and magazine editor. My roles in content creation continued to grow, and in 2020 I was named Vice President of Content at a leading agricultural media company, where I led a team of 27 media professionals with a portfolio of eight magazines, one newspaper, two nationally syndicated television programs and a nationally syndicated radio show as well as related digital media assets.

In this role I leveraged design thinking principles to innovate within the media space. In 2021 I left the media company to launch Mind Full Creatives, where I combine my innovation skills with mindfulness practices to help teams flex their creativity and innovation muscles within their own organizations or in their personal lives.

We’ve been impressed with Mind Full Creatives, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I embrace two roles in my professional life. I lead fun, revenue-generating workshops for companies that use design thinking and mindfulness principles to unlock the flow state.

I’m a passionate content strategist, driving business opportunities and revenue growth through innovative content strategy and optimization.
Using my extensive experience in data analysis, brand awareness, and digital-first strategy, I thrive on helping teams translate complex ideas into successful products that support business goals across all mediums.

As a former vice president of content and a director of content strategy, I’m a decisive leader and skilled content creator with more than 20 years of experience creating strategic content that generates new leads, increases target audience engagement, and drives revenue growth activities.

I’m also a registered yoga instructor (RYT 500) and mindfulness and meditation coach with experience leading corporate yoga sessions that help creatives reset their brains, realign their workday, and be more productive. As a certified yoga therapist. (C-IAYT). I am currently accepting clients who are exploring the benefits of yoga therapy.

Yoga therapy leverages movement, breath work, and meditation practices to help heal the body and the mind. Yoga therapy is accessible for every body, and practice is often adapted for physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual challenges that range from conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, structural issues, and digestive disorders to post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, headaches, fibromyalgia, addiction and recovery and much more.

When you work with a yoga therapist, this professional tailors a practice to your condition and specific needs to help you improve mobility, find a more peaceful mind, enhance your lung capacity, and support your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I do consider myself a risk taker, as I left a six-figure position as vice president of content at a leading agricultural media company to launch Mind Full Creatives. I passionately believe that mindfulness practices and design thinking can help unlock the creative flow state to help companies leverage their biggest untapped resource: their employees.
