Check Out Preston Jordan’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Preston Jordan.

Hi Preston, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I honestly don’t know how I got to where I’m at today I don’t give myself alot of credit. I’ve never really fit in anywhere. I’ve never fit in with my family or friends. I never really was ever accepted but any 1 set of friend group. I was the fat weird kid growing up so I was constantly looked down upon, made fun of, and outcasted by my peers. Having trouble with my biological father who was trying everything he could to dissect my well being. Feeling isolated and just trying to make sense of the things that were happening it was hard you know. And that’s for most of us that have experienced different things in this life. So you could imagine that when I did make friends of course they were older and and had their own problems going on. So I got into alot of trouble. To make a long story short. I got into drugs and alcohol around the age of 12-13 by the time I was 15 I pretty much was a full blown meth head and heavy drug user trying to cope and feel anything but emptiness. At that same time I started having severe mental illness and was diagnosed with manic depressive disorder, anxiety, and schizoaffective disorder. I carried a heavy drug addiction for the next 20 years. Now thankfully I made through the other side which you don’t get to hear to many of those stories. About 5 years ago I was deeply depressed, 300 pounds, in a failing relationship with my kids mother, trying to raise my kids, no job, strung out on LSD losing grips with reality. Then we did finally split, my step father the man that raised me passed away, and when stuff like that happens it feels like your world is falling apart. But it was actually everything that I needed to happened to be where I am right now. Strong, healthy, sober, lost 100 pounds, I’m working out, navagating my mental health without prescription drugs and with out the help of doctors, living life and taking care of my kids. So when I’m asked how did I get here today….. I really don’t know cause I probably should be dead. So I know I am here for a reason I’m just not sure exactly for what or why. Maybe it to share this with you. I don’t know.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No my whole life has been a struggle as I said before. But I can say that most of everything I’ve experienced was completely on me. From the choices I made, drugs, people it was my choice, I can’t help what my dad or other people did to me when I was younger. And when you think that your doing the best you can you can’t see that when your growing up and feel lost. You feel like everyone’s against you and no one understands or can’t hear you. Your young and you think you know everything. And we all have the mentality that even though we’re so desperate to been seen and validated. We feel like we have to do it alone or that we don’t need help. So no it hasn’t been easy but life isn’t easy or smooth. But I’ve learned over the years that it’s how you approach the struggles and problems you face. If you have a victim mind set despite whatever happens thats when you spiral in those lower frequencies and the more you focus on that bad stuff thats happening the more it amplifies and and the longer it keeps you trapped in those chaotic moments.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a artist, painter, creative. I guess I would describe it as psychedelic visual art specializing in high-impact, vibrant canvas paintings with bright neon colorways that bridge the gap between fine art and live culture. Driven by vivid color palettes and kinetic movement, I try translate raw emotion and musical energy into striking visual form. Starting to get known for dynamic live painting. So I try and create art, designed to captivate, connect, and elevate any space. I’m a mixed media of wonky psychedelic abstract and cartoonish over exaggerated characters.

I’m most proud of finally just being me. I’ve lived a life of many mask and I feel like I’m finally just me. Open minded forever growing.

What sets me apart? I’m free, I don’t care, I refuse to conform, I am me, and I don’t need you to validate me. I refuse to be closed minded about anything. But even though I like something today doesn’t mean I’m going to like it tomorrow. Forever evolving.

Any big plans?
Shit creating. Breaking past my limitations. I want to be live painting more, sharing my story, helping people, leaving my 9-5 job, traveling, being with my kids. Also I want to learn how to get into painting murals.
