Today we’d like to introduce you to Rae Ellis.
Hi Rae, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had a rough childhood grew up in Kansas City in the middle of northeast which was not the best. My dad was in the game. My mom was on drugs. I was born in prison actually after about a year and a half with my grandma and my mom, my dad came and got me. He raised me which he did the absolute best and I appreciate. I was blessed and fortunate enough to be smart and got an opportunity to be a Kauffman scholar so I had a full ride scholarship to the university of Arkansas. I graduated high school with a 4.2 GPA also national honor Society member. I attended the university of Arkansas for two years were there because I was struggling I had to hustle and ended up getting in some trouble went to jail dropped out of school. Once I moved back I started insurance sales and transitioned in a car sales and from there I’ve been very successful. since then I’ve opened my business The Move KC,
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely! if this was a perfect journey I don’t think I would appreciate or enjoy it as much. I have faced all of the struggles you can think of getting to where I’m at today from being broke being homeless feeling like I absolutely have nothing. there have been times where I’ve been up and back down back up again. there’s the crazy, saying it’s not how many times you fall down it’s about how many times you get up!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
So we are a bar/lounge where you can come chill. Have a hookah have a drink bring a friend come Solo. different theme and vibe than what a lot of places offer we offer Bogo deals every day we’re open. We do let people rent it out for special events for like birthdays and reunions not only do I pride myself in this being a place you can enjoy yourself. It’s a safe place this is a no tolerance for any kind of craziness. the way I came up with the name of my business. People would always ask me because I used to throw parties and different events and host, people would always ask me, hey what’s the move and now I got the move.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Everything I do is for my son! As well as my family. What makes me happy is creating opportunities and experiences that other people can enjoy. As someone who deals with a lot. Having a moment to smile and forget about it can be a peace of mind. Seeing the happiness in others brings out the happiness in me.
