Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Hudson.
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started playing music at an early age hanging out with my dad who is a singer songwriter. I started guitar lessons at age 12 then joined several rock bands & punk bands in my teens early 20s then studied classical guitar & got a degree at the conservatory of music at UMKC with Douglas Niedt as my instructor. Graduated there in 96 afterwards started playing with some folk rock bands with my classical guitar as my lead instrument, sort of developing my current style there.
My current groups I play in are Gullywasher, Barclay & Hudson and my new band Hudson Electric.
With Gullywasher we’ve released 4 albums and Hudson Electric is getting ready to release our first in December. I’ve also started making home recordings during Covid.. released Chris Hudson & the Bard Owls “ The Easing” in 2021. Recently I made a couple of solo home recordings with my friend Jason Beers & have played on a few local artist’s albums. The newest project Hudson Electric I’ve released several singles & new album in December. I recorded it with Danny Mcgaw at his Northern Sky Recordings studio.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been a pretty long hard road at times.
I’m also an instructor of music at Kansas City Young Audiences been there since 2004. So I’ve seen lots of ups and downs but somehow I’ve been able to always hustle for gigs and shows and students..it’s sort comes with the territory to have good and bad times and always be booking 3-6 months ahead to maintain.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a full time musician & music instructor. Teaching guitar & several instruments. Playing a gig every weekend. I think for me what sets me apart is I’ve been doing this a long long time now. So I sort of know what to expect and how to communicate and adjust with the times..
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Playing in basement bands with my friends.
