Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Irwin.
Hi Kiara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I first started in the wedding industry about seven years ago. My daughter’s grandparents have been in the industry for many years, and that’s where I got my start. At the time, I never imagined that helping them would eventually lead to owning my own wedding planning business.
In 2024, I launched KB Coordinating, and honestly, it was a blessing in disguise. It all started when a bride asked me if I was a wedding coordinator. That simple question stuck with me, and within the same week, I officially launched my business.
Like many small business owners, my first year came with a lot of learning. Between networking, social media, building vendor relationships, and learning the ins and outs of wedding planning and coordination, it took a lot of hard work and dedication. But I quickly realized this was exactly what I was meant to do.
Since then, KB Coordinating has continued to grow. What started with just me has expanded to a team with two assistant coordinators and one associate coordinator. It’s been incredibly rewarding to build a business that helps couples navigate the planning process, feel supported, and truly enjoy one of the most important seasons of their lives.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. Like many small business owners, there have been plenty of challenges along the way. One of the biggest struggles was building a business from the ground up while also learning how to market myself, network with other vendors, and establish a presence on social media. When you’re first starting out, it can be difficult to gain trust and book clients when you don’t have years of business ownership behind you.
Another challenge was learning to balance being a business owner with my personal life. As a wife and mom of two, balancing family life while running a wedding business often means long weekends, late nights, and wearing multiple hats at once. There were definitely moments where I questioned myself or wondered if I was doing enough.
That being said, every challenge taught me something valuable. Each wedding, each mistake, and each success helped me grow both personally and professionally. Looking back, those struggles played a huge role in shaping KB Coordinating into what it is today, and they made me appreciate every milestone even more.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At KB Coordinating, I specialize in wedding planning and coordination services for couples who want to feel supported throughout the planning process and confident on their wedding day. My role is to help bring my couples’ vision to life while managing the logistics, timelines, vendors, and unexpected challenges that can come with planning a wedding.
What I’m most proud of is the relationships I’ve built with both my couples and fellow wedding vendors. The trust they place in me means everything. There is nothing more rewarding than having couples refer their friends and family to me or having vendors recommend my services because of the experience we’ve shared working together. Those relationships are a reflection of the care, communication, and dedication I bring to every wedding.
I believe what sets me apart is my approach to serving people. I focus on building genuine relationships with my clients, providing honest communication, and creating a planning experience that feels personal rather than transactional. I want every couple to feel heard, supported, and valued throughout the process.
I’m also proud of how much KB Coordinating has grown in a relatively short amount of time. What started as a one person business has expanded to include two assistant coordinators and one associate coordinator, allowing us to serve even more couples while maintaining the same level of care and attention that the business was built on.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My biggest piece of advice is to focus on building genuine relationships. Some of the best connections I’ve made have come from getting to know other wedding vendors and supporting one another.
For me, networking has been less about business and more about building friendships within the industry. Having strong relationships with other vendors has been one of the best parts of building my wedding planning business, and many of my referrals and opportunities have come from those connections.
