Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Jones.
Hi Lauren, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a “home girl.” When I moved into my first apartment at 18, I remember thinking I was saving up to pay for a traffic ticket. (I have an eye for interiors, but apparently not stop signs.) When the judge reduced my fine to only court costs, I rushed home and bought the brown zebra-print rug I’d been eyeing for my first little living room. It was 2009, and that rug was happening. Were there wiser things I could have done with that money? Absolutely. But all that to say—the spaces I’ve lived in have always felt like a canvas to me.
In 2021, my husband and I decided to take our DIY skills (fueled by my big ideas and countless YouTube tutorials) to the next level by flipping houses. I shared the journey on social media, documenting the struggles, the victories, and all the before-and-after transformations.
It’s been a wholehearted job. Seeing a filthy, forgotten house become a treasured home full of life feels like a small reflection of the new life I’ve been given through Jesus, so it has always been about more than investing to me. My goal has been to honor both the story of the home and the people who would eventually live there. Working within the tight budgets and limitations of flip houses forced me to be creative and intentional, always looking for ways to make each home feel special—something the next owner could truly be proud of.
House flipping was a roller coaster. In the beginning, we did almost everything ourselves, learning through trial and error, making mistakes, and figuring things out as we went. Those hands-on experiences taught me more than I ever could have learned from a textbook. Along the way, a supportive community of local followers began cheering us on as we grew into what is now Dwell in the House.
During those early years, people frequently asked me to help with projects in their own homes. As grateful as I was, I often said no. I was still learning, still building relationships with reliable trades, and I felt a tremendous responsibility for the work being done in someone else’s home. While I occasionally took on a small project, I felt most comfortable renovating and reselling our own properties.
Finally, in 2025, I felt ready—or at least as ready as I was ever going to be—to step through a client’s front door. I began offering full-service design and remodeling, while continuing to take on the occasional flip when the right opportunity comes along. Since then we’ve had the privilege of helping more than 20 families transform their homes. It’s been incredibly rewarding to create spaces without the constraints of flip-house budgets and timelines, designing homes where families will make memories for years to come. More than anything, I’ve been humbled by the trust our clients place in us and grateful to play a small role in creating spaces they truly love living in.
Staging has always been part of our story. We’ve staged every one of our flip houses because I wholeheartedly believe in the power of helping buyers envision themselves living in a home. This year, I decided to bring my personal staging inventory and experience into the open market, adding a Home Staging division to Dwell in the House for local builders, real estate agents, and homeowners. I’ve found it to be an exciting, fast-paced complement to the slower rhythm of renovation work, and we’ve begun building an incredible team committed to serving our clients with excellence.
Looking back, what began with saving pennies for home décor and making the most of whatever space I found myself in has grown into a business that allows me to combine creativity, craftsmanship, and serving others. Every project—whether it’s a renovation, a staged listing, or a simple design consultation—is an opportunity to help someone experience beauty, order, peace, and joy inside their home.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Finding the right crew has been an integral part of the process, and that’s something that really can only come through time, trial, and error. Today, we work with tradespeople we know and trust, staying closely involved throughout each project to make sure we’re delivering a home we’re proud of.
One of the biggest shifts from renovating our own flip houses to designing clients’ homes has been learning how to get the ideas out of my own head and into a form others can understand. With a flip, the vision is mine from start to finish. Client projects are much more collaborative, requiring clear communication and helping homeowners visualize the finished space before construction begins. That’s why our proposals read more like letters than estimates, and why we’ve partnered with talented renderers to help bring more complex projects to life.
As you know, we’re big fans of Dwell In The House . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Dwell in the House specializes in real estate restorations, design-minded remodeling, and home staging. Through our restoration projects, we’re passionate about giving forgotten homes a second chance and providing quality housing for the families who will call them home. Our remodeling services combine thoughtful design with real-world construction experience, giving homeowners both a creative vision and the confidence that it can be executed well. Our staging services help builders, Realtors, and homeowners showcase properties in a way that captures buyers’ attention and helps homes sell.
How do you think about luck?
Looking back, it’s impossible for me to chalk this journey up to luck. I’ve seen too many moments of provision, timing, and direction. I believe God has been faithfully leading me, often in ways I didn’t recognize until much later, and this business is one of the greatest examples of that.
