Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura & Aundrea Organizers | Co-Founders.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Laura and Aundrea originally met as neighbors, where their passion for bringing community together through neighborhood block parties became one of their first collaborative projects. As their friendship developed, they realized they also shared a devotion to transforming chaotic environments into peaceful sanctuaries.
Life gets busy. Between work, family, endless to-do lists, and everything in between, we know how quickly clutter can pile up. We’ve been there ourselves, and that’s why we believe organization isn’t about having a picture-perfect home—it’s about creating a space that brings a little more peace to your everyday life.
What started as helping friends and family get organized naturally grew into something bigger. We discovered that we loved creating simple, practical systems that made life easier, and before long, we were helping families, professionals, and small businesses throughout Kansas City reclaim their spaces and their time.
Today, Edit the Mess is built on genuine relationships, teamwork, and more than 20 years of combined organizing experience. From overflowing garages and chaotic closets to busy home offices and everything in between, we’ve learned that every space—and every person—deserves solutions that are functional, sustainable, and tailored to the way they live.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We’ve faced many of the same struggles that every new business will likely face. From building a client base, to balancing our time and schedules to developing our systems and business processes–we have faced obstacles in all areas. Sometimes progress doesn’t move as quickly as we’d like. Other times we’ve felt overwhelmed. We have overcome these challenges by knowing what our strengths and roles are, what our capacity is, and what we don’t do well and need to delegate. Understanding our roles has allowed us to work together as a team. While Aundrea and Laura both have organizational skills, it’s our differences that have benefited us just as much as our similarities. We’ve also been very selective in who we choose to work with (as in–who we hire to assist us, as well as our clients we work with). We have taken time to build a foundation of communication, trust, and cooperation.
As you know, we’re big fans of Edit the Mess. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are professional organizers. Professional organizing is a relatively new (and growing!) industry–which means frequently clients contact us feeling overwhelmed, but not entirely knowing where to start or what to even ask from us. SO we’d like our clients to know a few simple things to break down the process :
We specialize in : Your Mess. Everyone thinks their mess is the worst we’ve ever seen. It’s not, we promise (even if it happened to be–tackling your mess is exactly where we thrive and excel).
You should know : There are two main problems that contribute to clutter. The first is not having a place for your items. The second is not regularly putting your items away. Which brings us to…
Our offerings and services are designed to solve your organization challenges : Our complimentary consultation will help us assess what you need (even if you’re not sure where to start!). Usually, we tackle the first common obstacle by starting with decluttering (with our client’s input), followed by implementing a dedicated space for every item. Our follow up services address the second most common problem with our ‘maintenance organization’ packages designed to continue serving you, offering value to our clients over time as their lifestyles and needs change. We build relationships with clients so that we understand their preferences, allowing us to adapt to their goals and maintain organization throughout their many stages of life (ie : moving, new baby, holiday decoration setup and storage, seasonal closet maintenance, downsizing, and so much more!).
Our brand is meant to make organizing accessible : We know life can feel messy at times, and we want to ease the tension around perfection. With Edit the Mess, we know organizing is a continual process. Regular ‘edits’ of your space and belongings help keep life flowing smoothly.
Our experience sets us apart : We have over 20 plus years of combined experience in a variety of settings requiring organization. We’ve trained and developed our organization skills through various educational and applied methods, bringing a level of expertise that is multifaceted. Aundrea and Laura both understand the psychology of organizing, adding a layer of compassion developed over time.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, Aundrea recognized early on that an organized environment provided a foundation for ease. From an organized desk to a cozy room, she intuitively knew that her surroundings had an impact. When visiting friends’ houses, she would often offer her help in organizing friends’ rooms. At school, she would assist classmates with keeping their desk and backpacks tidy. Aundrea enjoyed sharing her skills from a young age, witnessing first hand the positive impact of a tidy environment.
Laura’s passion for organization began early. Growing up in a family-owned business, she experienced firsthand the unique dynamics of working alongside family. With an interior designer as her mother, she was surrounded by thoughtfully designed spaces where beauty and function went hand in hand—an influence that continues to shape her approach to organizing today.
