Today we’d like to introduce you to Caitlyn Stuck.
Hi Caitlyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been in the salon industry for over a decade at this point and it’s been such a journey. I moved to Kansas City in 2012 and was working as a bartender/server when o decided that I wanted to pursue a life in the Beauty Industry, after doing research I decided to go to Z Hair Academy and it was such a life changing decision,
I officially took control of my life and developed the skills needed to jump start my career, after graduating I went right into the salon world at JC Penny Salon while working a retail job as well. I continued this two job life for the next few years while I grew my clientele and business, moving my talent to the West Plaza area at Salon Ado and there I was really able to grow as a stylist,
In 2020 I made the decision to open my own salon suite, Southern Roots by Caitlyn in Overland Park and have had success there ever since specializing in Blonding and Custom Color. I’ve even been lucky enough to experience so many opportunities in my career like working in the NFL Cheer World styling Chiefs Cheerleaders, helping out at Kansas City Fashion Week and even some Celebrity Styling!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been an easy road, I always had the talent and drive but I did decide to open Southern Roots during Covid. I was working on decorating and preparing during shut down and at that time there was so much anxiety in the world and even within myself…I mean I am opening a business with no clear sign of what will happen after this pandemic or even when I would be able to open.
3 months after signing my lease and getting everything set up in Phenix Salon and Suites I was able to open and fill my books, I was truly so blessed my clients were right there to pick me up when I was able to open.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love the “newness” that the hair industry has, there is always a new trend & style coming into my world and that makes everything so fun and creative, I never know what’s going to be walking into the salon, it keeps me on my toes and keeps everything exciting.
I specialize in Blonding, Custom Color & Haircutting, while also offer SprayTan services.
There is truly nothing like making someone feel their absolute best! Brightening them up with highlights or providing an instant Bronze with a spraytan, I love seeing a client smile after being pampered and leaving feeling their absolute best.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love working with fellow creators in the Kansas City area, I firmly believe in collaboration over competition. Photogs, other Stylists, Makeup Artisits, Content Creators..we are all here to assist and build each other up.
Small business Kansas City is a support system and I think we really shine as a city in that…we all support each other!
