Today we’d like to introduce you to Jesse Austin.
Hi Jesse, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started back when I was a kid. I used to go to my grandma’s house & look at old pictures, it didn’t matter if I knew them or not, I was so fascinated by photos. As I got older, I would always take random pictures & record everything. It got to a point where people wanted me to take their pictures. In middle/high school, there was this website called picnik where you can edit pictures, & everyone always wanted me to make them a customized picture. Fast forward to 2016, My aunt gave me a Nikon coolpix L110 camera to start off with and I practiced with landscapes, my friends & family. I then got my first client, then second, third and so on. I then started feeling really confident & wanted to upgrade my camera & learn extra stuff as far as navigating photoshop. Everything I know, I’ve learned on my own for the most part. I know I’m only going to get better as I continue my journey!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely was rocky on the way up. I gave up so many times. I couldn’t help sometimes to compare my work against others & would start to feel discouraged. Trying to watch tutorials & perfect my craft, but not getting to the perfect part. My friends, family & even clients persuaded me to keep going & even some told me that they only feel comfortable with me taking their photos when I would recommend other photographers. That meant the world to me. Just when I thought I didn’t really have nobody that really wanted to see me keep pushing, they all proved me wrong.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer, a content creator & an Independent contractor. I’ve been doing content for a while now, but I think I’m really ready to take off completely with it & really start making money off of it to where it becomes my full time job. I want to step out of my comfort zone & really start networking with the right people, as I have most of the skills to do so. A lot of people know me for my funny skits from movie remakes, show remakes etc. I have 38,000 followers on my TikTok account with my most viewed video coming in at 7.2 Million views. @_thatsjayy is my handle on there & Instagram. I’ve always been into making people laugh with my goofy sense of humor.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m naturally pretty quiet, but I’m very competitive with myself. I love setting goals for myself & finding ways to improve.
