Rising Stars: Meet Lauren Uberroth of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Uberroth.

Hi Lauren, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Photography has always been something I loved, but I never imagined turning it into an actual business. My husband and my mother were the ones who really believed in me before I believed in myself. They encouraged me to start offering sessions, and I’m so thankful they pushed me to take that leap.

One of the biggest reasons I keep my pricing affordable is because of my own experience. Years ago. as a struggling single mom, professional family photos just weren’t something I could justify spending money on. Looking back, I wish I had more photos of my child and me during those years. It’s something I’ve honestly carried with me.

Because of that, I’ve built my business around the belief that everyone deserves beautiful family photos, not just those with a big photography budget. Whether you’re a single parent, a married couple, expecting your first baby, celebrating your senior, or simply wanting to document this season of life, I want professional photography to feel accessible.

Today, I specialize in families, couples, seniors, maternity, and weddings. My goal isn’t just to deliver beautiful photos, it’s to showcase the moments that become your family’s memories. Knowing I can help someone capture something they’ll never get back is the most rewarding part of what I do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my biggest challenges has been my severe social anxiety. It’s a little ironic since photography is such a people focused business, but meeting new clients and putting myself out there has been something I’ve had to work through every step of the way.

There have been plenty of moments where I’ve doubted myself or felt overly nervous before a session, but I’ve learned that once I start connecting with my clients, those nerves quickly fade. Seeing families laugh together, couples interact naturally, or even parents enjoying a moment with their kids reminds me why I do this.

Like any small business owner, I’ve also had to learn everything from marketing and editing to running the business side of things. There have been challenges, but each one has helped me grow, not only as a photographer, but as a person. Every session builds my confidence a little more, and I’m proud that I didn’t let fear keep me from pursuing something I truly love.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I own L.K. Photography LLC, where I specialize in families, couples, seniors, maternity, and weddings. My photography style is vibrant, true-to-color, and focused on capturing genuine moments rather than overly posed images. I want my clients to look back at their photos years from now and remember exactly how that specific season of life felt.

What I’m most proud of is creating a photography experience that feels welcoming, relaxed, and affordable. I know firsthand that professional photos can feel like a luxury, especially for families trying to make ends meet. That’s why I’ve worked hard to keep my pricing accessible, because I believe everyone deserves beautiful photos, regardless of their budget.

I think what sets me apart is that I genuinely care about the people in front of my camera. I take the time to get to know my clients, make them feel comfortable, and create a fun, low-pressure environment where real personalities shine through. At the end of the day, I’m not just delivering a gallery of photos… I’m capturing moments that can never be recreated, and that’s something I never take for granted!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t think luck is what got me to where I am now, I think it’s been a combination of support, perseverance, and taking chances even when I was scared..

I’ve definitely been fortunate to have people in my corner. My husband, my mom, and basically my entire family believed in me and encouraged me to start offering photography sessions long before I felt ready. Their confidence gave me the push I needed to take that first step and to keep going.

At the same time, building my business hasn’t always come easily. I have severe social anxiety, so putting myself out there, meeting new clients, and marketing myself has been a challenge. There have been plenty of moments where fear could have kept me from moving forward, but I’ve learned that growth usually happens just outside of my comfort zone.

If there has been any “luck,” it’s been finding clients who trust me to capture some of the most important moments of their lives. I never take that for granted. Every session, every referral, and every family that comes back to me feels like a blessing, and I’m incredibly grateful that I get to do something I genuinely love!
