Today we’d like to introduce you to George Baker.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ll keep this part brief but I grew up one of those people who never really had it all I didn’t grow up from the best financial situation. Had an inconsistent father. Youngest of 5 siblings on my mom’s side. So the struggle was definitely real. We moved around a lot from nkc and Wyandotte county. After I graduated high school I tried college it didn’t really work for me so I hopped right into the warehouse Industry because of the convenience. It wasn’t ideal but it paid the bills. With that I found myself being unfulfilled with life so I tried several different businesses. Going into those with little to no knowledge nothing stuck but I was determined to find something. One day at work I started to brainstorm all the things I liked and were passionate about. I’m a real simple guy honestly. So the list wasn’t really long. I love shoes so I figured out how I can turn my passion for those into not just any business but a lucrative empire. Like everyone that has a business it’s all about ups and downs but the one who succeed are just the ones who never gave up. A no matter how many times I go through a rough patch in life whether it’s financially, emotionally, physically, or spiritually, my passion for shoes and the business finds its way back to me. I’ve built numerous connections throughout not just Kansas City but the world because of my passion. And for that I will be forever grateful and fortunate for the opportunity to work and bless others through at first was just a thought, now has turned into me positively impacting the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing about building a business has been a smooth road, especially when you’re genuinely committed to creating something meaningful and successful. Entrepreneurship comes with a lot of unseen battles. People often celebrate the wins, but they don’t always see the sleepless nights, the self-doubt, the financial sacrifices, or the pressure that comes with trying to build something from the ground up.
On top of being a business owner, you’re still dealing with everyday life. There are mental, physical, emotional, and even spiritual challenges that don’t disappear just because you’re chasing your dreams. There were moments when I questioned myself, moments when things didn’t go as planned, and times when I felt exhausted. But every obstacle became an opportunity to grow stronger, wiser, and more resilient.
One thing that has kept me moving forward is my faith. I truly believe God places dreams in our hearts for a reason. I don’t believe He would allow something to be on my mind or in my path if He didn’t also give me the strength, wisdom, and ability to overcome the challenges that come with it. My job is to remain faithful, stay disciplined, continue learning, and keep showing up—even on the days when motivation isn’t there.
Success isn’t about having a perfect journey; it’s about refusing to quit. Every setback has taught me something valuable, and every challenge has helped shape not only the business I’m building but also the person I’m becoming. Looking back, I’m grateful for every obstacle because it has strengthened my character and given me a deeper appreciation for the journey.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I restore and customize sneakers, that’s what I’m known most for but I also do a few other things. I am most proud of my versatility. I’m the type of person who can go into any environment and stand out. I’ve always been that way. I can control a room with just my presence. One thing that sets me apart from other people is that I just be myself always. It’s only one of me and I try to be the best version of me everyday. I wouldn’t want to be anyone else In any lifetime. I genuinely feel like any and every thing happens for a reason. So I thank God for every opportunity I get to live another day.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
When it comes to business one thing that has worked for me is being able to be coachable. When I first started I had little knowledge of what worked in business. Actually doing the work was the easy part. All the behind the scenes stuff is what gets a lot of people overwhelmed. I had zero knowledge about marketing, taxes, llc, inventory, target dates, sales. Literally everything business related I didn’t know. Until I started watching YouTube videos. In today’s age you can learn just about anything and everything on YouTube and TikTok. But if you want a hands on mentor I definitely would recommend finding someone who is established in your business that’s in your area and reach out. Ask tons of questions business and personal. Like myself small business owners love giving game to others hence that’s why I’m doing this interview. When they talk you can hear and feel the passion when they speak. Those are the people who will be or already successful in their respective businesses or industries.
