Hi Kathy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a board-certified OB-GYN with over 35 years of experience, specializing in hormone optimization for both men and women, functional/longevity health management, and aesthetic medicine. As the Medical Director and founder of Regain Functional Medicine + Aesthetics in Kansas City and Lawrence, Kansas, I lead a dedicated team of highly trained professionals delivering personalized care in bioidentical hormone therapy, medically directed weight loss, sexual wellness treatments, peptides, hair restoration and advanced aesthetic procedures.
Regain was founded in 2015 to address the growing demand for whole-person/full-body healthcare which looks at a person’s complete well-being rather than treating symptoms in isolation. By understanding the full picture of a person’s life and health, whole person care aims to create more personalized, effective, and lasting outcomes.
My passion for longevity-directed healthcare and whole-body wellness has earned national recognition, including being named a 2024 American Heart Association Kansas City Leader of Impact for my work advancing equitable cardiovascular health. Beyond the clinic, I am a fierce advocate for survivors of domestic violence. I proudly served on the board of Newhouse, Kansas City’s oldest domestic violence shelter, and have helped raise critical funds and awareness as honorary co-chair of the Imagine a Day Gala as well as sitting on their Board of Directors.
I live within The Village of Loch Lloyd, Mo with my husband, Doug Gaumer, Chief Customer Officer of First Federal Bank of KC, and our children have both returned to Kansas City to help run the business. Our Daughter, Lex, is now the Chief Operating Officer and son, Austin, is the Chief Financial Officer of Regains two office locations. A third location is slated to open in 2027!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This past year has been a difficult but rewarding one as I bought my two partners out of the business.
After being partners for over 10 years, the split was challenging and things got quite contentious and difficult during negotiations of the buy-out.
During that time, I went from being Chief Medical Officer to literally being Chief of everything!
I had to learn all the ins and outs and direct management for every part of my business while my children, now the COO and CFO of the company, got up and running in their respective roles.
Going through that process, no matter how stressful it was at times, put me in greater touch with the full operations of the business which has ultimately made me a better leader.
I’m proud to say that, since we took over the business, with my family’s and staff’s help, of course, we have grown in ways I couldn’t have imagined. We have added 7 new staff members, several new service lines, and have seen a steady increase in new patient visits.
