Meet Becky Wilson of WDS Marketing & PR

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Wilson.

Hi Becky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I founded my public relations agency in 1997 and have since honed the focus to local and national business media relations and local and national business awards and recognition programs. I specialize in assisting clients with building their brand, gaining greater acclaim for their expertise, and enhancing their client base. My agency clients have received Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards, Stevie Awards for Women in Business, American Business Awards, Enterprising Women of the Year, and Women Who Mean Business awards and honors. My agency has twice received the Grand National Stevie Award for outstanding achievement.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the challenges is the evolution of magazines from print publications to online media. Seeking media attention is now more time-consuming and challenging. Following award programs and seeing how they perform takes stamina. They change their judging criteria and public relations elements for honorees annually. I must tell clients about the programs and how the programs will be of benefit to them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My agency follows award programs and reviews the award applications and changes every year. I also follow national business magazines and assist the editors with stories and features when applicable. I lead clients through the entire awards program from start to finish. I write and edit award program content.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
My main interest began when I was in the 6th grade. I asked my parents for a miniature printing press so I could launch a newspaper for my class. I was on both the high school newspaper and yearbook staffs. In college, my major was English with minors studies in journalism and creative writing.
