Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloe Parrish.
Chloe , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story with music goes way back. From what my mother says. I’ve been singing since 4 years old. I believe my love of Disney movies helped with that! Around age 9 or 10, I ran into Alicia Keys and it was over from there. Besides music being the love of my life, I really started focusing on singing more after finding her.
So, all throughout my school career I was in music classes and different choirs of course. I had a very tough childhood so music and singing held me together up until I graduated high-school.
After high-school I did sing a little bit but life and self doubt really got to me. Mentally I just wasn’t in it anymore so I gave up singing for 4 years. I always had people ask me if I still sang and that I should get back into it but for a long time I just couldnt.
So we time jump over to 2022! A really good friend of mine hits me up about a talent show competition and once I built the courage to do that, Big Body Caprice was born into the Kansas City LGBTQ entertainers as a live vocalist.
Ive done so many different things since then its insane. Ive been booked in different cities, different states and its been really amazing.
Over 4 years I’ve gotten 9 nominations for best vocalist across 3 platforms/magazines. Best Host and best Karaoke at Woodys KC 3 times! Accomplishments I really did not see coming and im really grateful
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy and biggest critic. When everyone believed in me, I didnt believe in me. When I was encouraged, I discouraged myself. I was set on thinking I couldn’t do or accomplish anything when there were so many things greater than myself that I was able to accomplish.
Then when you finally start getting to where you need to be, you also have people that may constantly try to deter you from your path out of animosity or whatever else. Entertainment industry is very competitive sometimes. Best thing was learning to ignore these obstacles and not let people get into my head.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Im a Kansas City Vocalist! I sing around different venues in and out of the city. Ive also been a Healthcare worker for almost 11 years now!
I’m known for my voice and being “The Body”! Ive come along way with my voice and Im self taught! Plus being a choir kid helped!
Im proud of the differences ive been making in my community. Every since high-school ive always been about loving yourself and as a plus size girly I want everyone to love themselves as they are. If there’s things you want to change of course change them but whatever form youre in, Love yourself. Im a plus size Queen so ill always stand up for the big girls and also Black women! As a Plus size black woman I get hit on many levels. Fatphobia, racism, sexism and whatever else when all 3 are together. It can be discouraging sometimes but no matter what I just keep going and try to be that inspiration I wish I had growing up.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Always believe in yourself. I know thats cliche to say but really, if I never did that, I wouldnt be where I am now. Ive met so many amazing people and done so many amazing things. Do what makes YOU happy, always.
