Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Crockett.
Hi Lindsay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in Interior Architecture and started my career in the commercial architecture and construction industry, where I spent about three years gaining experience in design and project execution.
After that, I transitioned into residential design and construction, joining a design-build firm in Kansas City as a project manager. I spent four years there working closely with homeowners and managing projects from concept through completion. During that time I discovered that I was drawn to the residential side of the industry.
That experience inspired me to start my own business, which I’ve been running for the past four years. One of the things I love most about residential design is the opportunity to build relationships with homeowners and become part of an important chapter in their lives. Every family uses their home differently, and I take pride in helping people create a home that works better for the way they actually live. I value getting to know my clients, understanding what’s not working for them, and helping them come up with solutions that make their everyday lives easier and more enjoyable.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a completely smooth road. I actually started my family during the first year of launching my business, which wasn’t part of the original plan. Balancing the demands of a new business with becoming a new parent made that first couple of years especially challenging. Around the third year I really felt like I had found my footing.
Another challenge was learning how to be a business owner while still engaging with clients as a designer. Hiring people and becoming a leader required a completely different skill set. Delegating responsibilities and trusting others with work that I cared so much about was difficult. I realized that building a strong team was essential to continue growing, and it pushed me to become a better leader. I have much more confidence in letting my team take ownership while still maintaining the level of quality our clients expect.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Crockett + Co. Design Studio?
My business specializes in large-scale home renovations, additions, full-home remodels, and new home builds. We work with homeowners who are making significant investments in their homes, so our goal is to guide them through the entire process with confidence and clarity.
One of the things that sets me apart is my background in both architecture and construction. Having that foundation allows me to understand the design side of a project as well as how a home is actually built. I’m always curious and continuously learning about construction methods and design solutions because I want to understand not just what looks good, but why something will or won’t work. That perspective helps me make informed decisions and provide the best guidance for my clients throughout their project.
Above all, I want my clients to feel taken care of. I strive to be approachable and easy to work with, but I’m also their advocate. My job is to protect their interests, help them navigate decisions with confidence, and make sure they feel supported every step of the way. Building or renovating a home can be overwhelming, and I want my clients to know they have someone in their corner from start to finish.
How do you define success?
Early on, I looked at success through the lens of how many projects I had and whether my business was growing. As I’ve gained more experience, that’s shifted. Today, I define success by the impact I’m having on the people around me. I hold value in being a supportive and effective leader for my team and making sure our clients have a great experience from start to finish. If my team feels empowered and our clients are genuinely happy with both the process and the end result, I consider that a successful project and a successful business.
