Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Taylor.
Hi Robert, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Originally, my brand was called Certified Styling, and Better Off Friends was supposed to be the luxury line under it.
The name Better Off Friends came from a personal experience in 2020. During the shutdown, I was talking to someone, and with all the time apart, I realized how much I was growing and how much work I was able to get done on myself. It wasn’t a shot at her at all. It was a moment of self reflection that made me realize we were better in each other’s lives as friends than as lovers.
When I ended things, I simply told her, “I think we’re better off friends.”
From there, the name took on a much bigger meaning. It stopped being just about relationships. It became about life experiences, personal growth, and self awareness. It also became about understanding that not everything is meant to stay the same. Those experiences became the foundation of the brand, and today every collection tells a different story inspired by those lessons.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey definitely hasn’t been easy. It’s been a lot of ups and downs. I’ve had to balance building a brand while dealing with everyday life, just like everyone else. There have been times where life got in the way, and staying consistent was one of the hardest parts.
I’ve been doing this for almost seven years now, and every challenge has taught me something. Right now, my focus is getting back to being consistent and intentional with everything I do. I’m not just creating clothes anymore. I’m taking my time, thinking everything through, and building Better Off Friends the right way so it can last for years to come.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My friends and family shape my pieces. Im into luxury and Streetwear. Luxury has yet to debut but it’s on the way. I’m proud of still going honestly it’s a good feeling seeing people like what you’ve spent hours on. I’m unique in my process , I don’t go for trends I create them . Each piece is different.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Going to ride bikes with my cousins and friends till the streetlights came on
