Today we’d like to introduce you to Ammon Dorsey.
Hi Ammon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a husband and a dad before I’m anything else.
Our daughter, Sephora, has significant disabilities and requires a high level of care. Life revolves around doctor appointments, therapies, and the unexpected. Raising her has changed the way I see people, the way I solve problems, and the way I show up when someone needs help. It has taught me patience, adaptability, and how much a calm, steady presence matters when life feels overwhelming.
Those experiences also shaped the career I chose.
For years, I searched for work that fit both my strengths and my family’s needs. I needed a career with flexibility, but I also wanted one that challenged me to think critically, solve complex problems, and build genuine relationships. In 2021, I found that in the mortgage industry.
Helping someone buy a home is about far more than numbers and interest rates. Every client has a story, a goal, and often a lot of uncertainty. I enjoy guiding people through those moments, simplifying the process, and helping them make confident decisions. The same qualities I rely on at home every day, patience, communication, and staying steady under pressure, are the qualities I bring to every client I work with.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest obstacle I’ve faced has been learning to embrace uncertainty.
I started in 2021 without an established network or a pipeline of business. I was building relationships from scratch while learning an entirely new industry.
Then the market changed. Interest rates climbed, business slowed down, and many loan officers left the industry.
At the same time, I was trying to provide for my family while raising our daughter, Sephora. There were plenty of days where I questioned whether I was doing the right thing. I kept reminding myself why I started and focused on getting a little better every day.
One thing this career teaches you quickly is patience. You might spend weeks or months building a relationship before it turns into an opportunity. There aren’t many shortcuts. You earn trust one conversation at a time.
The other challenge is the emotional side of the job. Buying a home often happens during some of life’s biggest moments. I’ve worked with first-time buyers, families welcoming a new baby, people changing careers, going through divorce, or grieving the loss of a loved one. Every file has a story behind it, and I never want to lose sight of that.
Looking back, I’m thankful things weren’t easy. If they had been, I don’t think I would have grown into the person or the loan officer I am today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Guild Mortgage, Ammon Dorsey Home Loans?

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about Kansas City is the people. There’s a strong sense of community here that still feels genuine. Even as the city continues to grow, people are approachable, relationships matter, and there’s still a small-town feel in a lot of ways. That’s been huge for both my personal life and my business because so much of what I do is relationship-driven.
I also love the balance Kansas City offers. You get many of the opportunities and amenities of a larger metro area without some of the overwhelming pace and cost of living you see in bigger cities. The food scene is incredible, the real estate market has historically been more affordable than many parts of the country, and there’s a lot of pride here in local businesses and supporting one another.
What I like least is probably that Kansas City is still a bit underrated nationally. People outside the Midwest often have outdated perceptions of what the city is like. In reality, there’s a lot of growth, opportunity, culture, and talent here.
From a real estate perspective, I’d also say affordability has become more challenging for many local families over the last several years. Home prices and interest rates have both climbed quickly, and I’ve seen firsthand how that impacts buyers emotionally and financially. Helping people navigate that responsibly has become a much bigger part of the job.
