Rising Stars: Meet Samantha Chang of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Chang.

Hi Samantha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was about to graduate high school and it was time to figure out what I wanted to be, I decided that if I had to pick a career, I’d rather do something I actually loved. That’s what led me to cosmetology school.

I’ve been in this industry since 2011, and I’ve made it a priority to keep learning and growing the whole way through. Staying educated and up to date matters to me, not just for myself, but so I can pass that knowledge on to my clients and help them understand proper nail care and what to expect when they sit in my chair.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never a smooth road to success. I’ve worked in a lot of different salons, worked independently, and even owned a salon at one point, and each era came with its own learning curve. But I’ve learned to take every struggle and carry those lessons into the next chapter.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a cosmetologist specializing in Gel X, acrylics, builder gel, and waxing. Along the way, I’ve also picked up lashes and permanent jewelry, and I’ve been a licensed educator for two years.

I’d say I’m known for being efficient in my work. Being in this career for 15 years, I’ve naturally picked up speed while still keeping the quality high.

What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come. I want to set an example in the nail industry and help others find their true passion, whether that’s a client discovering self care or a fellow tech finding their own path in this field.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Never be afraid to take risks. I know a lot of people say that, but I mean it. Don’t be afraid to take that leap.

You never know if it will be the start of something great. And if it doesn’t work out, that’s okay too. You’ve already done more than a lot of people ever will just by trying, and you’re here to live and learn.
