Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordaan Ramirez-Jennings.
Hi Jordaan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story of joining the financial services industry started as an intern back in college while attending Ottawa University. Through that experience, I was able to quickly learn what it would take to build a financial planning practice by working alongside fulltime advisors. That early experience allowed me to build key relationships and obtain skills that has helped me excel to where we are today. Key attributes to help with leading others, communicating effectively, and how to develop a team and those around you.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road that got us to this point today was indeed never smooth. When you’re building a business from scratch there will always be struggles, obstacles, and challenges. Even today we continue to face new challenges but it’s the challenges themselves that force us to grow and continue to reach new heights.
Some of the challenges that I faced early were hiring my first employee, to further reinvesting, to figuring out how to deliver an expectational client experience that would help attract and retain members of the firm.
Although through mentor’s and key relationships, the support I received over the years has also kept me rowing in the right direction no matter the obstacle. Mentors such as Colin Starr, Paul Montello, and Padric Scott.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Northwestern Mutual?
My team and I specialize in solving unique problems specific to the members of the firm we are working with. Helping them take what can seem complex to them and making it simple.
I believe the biggest thing that sets us apart from others is our approach to planning. For instance, are approach is centered around the member and finding out what’s truly important to them. Taking the time to first diagnose/analyze followed by providing the proper strategies to the goal/problem they intend to solve.
The biggest thing I would want readers to know is the level of care and service we strive to provide is centered in our core values, Faith, Integrity, and Collaboration. While also being able to provide expert level advice due to the learnings I received from having my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER, Chartered Financial Consultant, and Retirement Income Certified Professional designations.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I would definitely consider myself a risk taker. Anyone starting a business no matter the size or field takes on some form of risk.
I remember early in my career when I took the risk of hiring my first employee, at least at that time I thought it was a risk. Now I view it as something that was necessary for not only the business to grow but for myself personally/professionally as well. With that one hire we were able to provide a higher level of service to the members of our firm while also increasing production by 50%
Due to that experience, I view risk very differently now. I view it as an opportunity to grow and reach new heights to be forced to get out of your comfort zone and reach new levels of achievement and purpose.
