Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Granville.
Hi Ashley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Like many people in helping professions, my journey started with my own lived experiences. My maternal grandparents instilled the values of education, community, and most importantly family; regardless of blood. Throughout my adolescent years I observed helping professionals in my home and observed my mother partnering with birth families, as my family provided care for foster children. I learned the importance of hope, relationships, and unconditional positive regard. These unique experiences naturally drew me to the field of social work. I’ve worked with children and families in various settings; including outpatient therapy, family preservation, and supporting foster homes. I created Elevate the Mind Mental Health Services three years ago to continue to meet people where they are and foster growth.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
“Constant elevation causes expansion”-Rakim
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I’ve had others attempt to close doors or project their own limitations. That energy has only solidified my own confidence and voice. There’s nothing that anyone can tell me I can’t do, and I instill that into those that I work with whom may be their own biggest critic. Those doubts just becomes background noise. The biggest challenge in my life currently is learning how to run a business. My masters program taught me how to be a clinical social worker, not how to do your own business finances or work with insurance companies.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Elevate the Mind Mental Health Services?
I provide individual and family therapy, as well as clinical supervision/consultation services. I work with individuals ages 16 and older throughout Kansas and Missouri. I also enjoy working with new social workers as they enter the field by providing clinical supervision. I have specialized training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). I enjoy working with women of all ages and lived experiences. There are many implied expectations for individuals socialized as women and I enjoy being a support to help others learn their identity and set healthy boundaries so they can live a full life without being burnt out. I want the readers to know that there is a space where you can learn to be the priority and that’s not self-ish.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
KC has the greatest combo of sports, food, and art. I love an adventure and it’s not hard to find a place that has all three.
