Today we’d like to introduce you to Jack Cunningham.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our son and Karen went on a weekend getaway to St Lois and researched things to do while on their visit. Candle Fusion in St Charles was one of the activities. They made candles and sprays with their own custom scent. Karen enjoyed it so much that we went together so that I could experience it. We loved the concept so much and thought it would be a nice activity to bring to our town. In speaking with the owner, which was very encouraging and full of information, we decided on our drive back, to open our shop. (Disclaimer, this is not a franchise, we are the one and only Fragrant Blends) We found a lovely little place in Manhattan Town Center. We opened in June 2021. We just celebrated our five year anniversary.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. This concept is located in larger cities. We started the business in the Mall, and in 2024 we moved onto Poytnz Ave to be in a downtown location because this concept does well in a downtown environment. What we have since realized is that is does well in downtown locations because of the larger populations in the larger cities. A smaller city like ours, we have discovered that we actually do better in the mall. Since learning this, we are moving back into the mall by October this year.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Our teamwork and adaptability has shown over the years and continues to do so. Karen and I work seamlessly together. We each have unique qualities that we bring to our business. I enjoy the science and technical side of things and Karen has the heart for hospitality. She strives to create a welcoming environment for all. We do our best to ensure our guest has a great experience so that they can have those memories like Karen and our son has from making things together.
