Daily Inspiration: Meet Laura Bowen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Bowen.

Hi Laura, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a musician for over 20 years. Fronting multiple rock bands here in Kansas City. Funny thing is it all began with a lie. When I was in high school I told a guy I had a crush on that I was in a band so he would take an interest in me. He was thrilled and asked if I would sign up for the Battle Of The Bands fundraiser he was putting together. Without even thinking it through I said yes. The only problem was I not only didn’t have a band, I had never been in a band. Fortunately my little brother played guitar and we decided to start a band together. After searching for a drummer for several weeks we decided to make our other brother take a shot at it. Turns out he picked it up very quickly. The three of us played the show and got 4th out of 11… not too bad. I had no idea it would change my life forever.
Fast forward to 2025. After the recent disbanding of my previous band Shadowsin I decided to start a solo project. In January of this year I released my first single “Born To Run” followed by my EP “Reimagine”.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been an amazing process working with Producer Bret Liber of Red Roof Productions. He really helped me bring these songs to life. I couldn’t be more thrilled with how the EP turned out. Starting over is never easy though. Everything from creating my brand and starting all new social media pages. It’s just the beginning but I’m very excited about the future. Doing it on my own terms has been really awesome.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m most known for my melodic, rock vocals and my high energy stage presence as a live performer. It’s always been very important to me that when I perform my music live that it be as fun for the audience as it is for me on stage. I put a lot of thought and planning into every part of our show. I have a great group of guys that are in my live band. I’m very proud of our chemistry together on stage. It’s more than just playing the songs. It’s an overall experience.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to anyone starting out or starting over is to really map out your goals and brand. Making music and playing it is fun but it’s really about the total package. It’s also good to invest in quality recordings and marketing. I’m learning more in more about the marketing side of music branding. I think investing in yourself is so important if you are trying to reach new audiences. Really take advantage of the stats on your social media pages. Most importantly keep it fun.
