Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Gripp.
Hi Adam, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
A life-long artist, I grew up in Virginia but moved to the Kansas City metro about 11 years ago. The art and music scene are ultimately what led me to land here in KC.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Particularly in the last year, it’s been especially challenging. My life completely changed in many ways in 2025. First I flipped my car, a few months later I lost my father, and then my entire perspective on family, society and reality shifted. Last year I fought for not only my mental and physical health, but also my spiritual well-being.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
While I will always be a visual artist first, my music is also a major part of who I am. I started releasing music as a solo hip-hop artist in 2018. That year I was also played the role of Iago in the Black Repertory Theatre’s production of “Othello: The Remix” at the historic Gem Theater in the Jazz District. I think my diverse creative skillset is one thing that sets me apart. Music is probably what I’m more known for in KC, as I have performed a couple of shows at MiniBar. Though, I haven’t been as involved in the community the last few years. Recently I’ve been laying low and working on my next project, “Atma Weapon.”
Any big plans?
I have several projects in the works right now. My primary focus is my next studio album, “Atma Weapon.” I tend to take my time on things because I can sometimes be a perfectionist, especially when it comes to my creative endeavors. I realize there’s no such thing as perfection, and a lot of art is more beautiful because of its imperfections. So I’m working on getting out of my head and just diving into the creative process.
