Today we’d like to introduce you to Ca’Mille Freeman.
Hi Ca’Mille, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up with a mother and grandmother’s who cooked for their families and one who made and sold cakes as a part of her income. For me though, I pay true hommage to my child hood church on where I got started on taking pride in and developed a love for cooking and feeding people. The basement of Bethal church of God In Christ in Kck is where I learned to fry my first piece of chicken, followed by fish (when they thought I was ready lol). I remember being the only little girl in the kitchen standing amongst what felt like giants at the time. The older women and mothers of the church who took no short cuts in or outside of the kitchen. I watched mother Chism bring in the fish she caught over the weekend to be clean and cooked, Mo. Crews in the corner with her bucket of fresh dough for them unmatched homemade rolls, pre shapping her batter to rise before the bake. Man oh man, in another corner my Aunt Leona showing me how to cut up whole chickens to fry, folding two wings together to look like a heart and it definitely didn’t take me too long to remember that I bet not rub the caked up batter from my hands in the good flour after dropping a batch! Ms. Mitchell and sis Precciely i could never forget the hand that you to played as well because Lord knows, “what goes on in the kitchen, stays in the kitchen” lol i can still hear that voice ringing my ear. I watched these ladies take no easy route in expressing the love, respect and appreciation they had for others through food. Once the prep was done, they executed the presentation of all their unseen hours of hard work with pride and humbleness, saving and eating the chicken backs for the kitchen staff, always making sure that others came first. I was and will always be so proud to be a part of that. I picked up different skills along the way, like my father teaching me to work the grill, which moved to smoked meats. No matter what I am doing though,to this day, I still stand on every moral those strong, poised women instilled in me. Rather I’m preparing a meal for home, dinner at church,a catering gig for 100+ or selling dinners on a Saturday, i give every meal my all and I take pride in people enjoying my creations. Cooking is a peaceful place for me and is my love language and no matter how much I grow, I never want to lose any of my grounding.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, the ruffest part of my journey is me getting in my own way. I should have atleast had my first food truck by now and working on the second but this will definitely change soon.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have always been in the Healthcare field and have multiple certifications within but cooking and catering has always been my peace and passion. It has always came natural and easy to and for me when it comes to doing it or providing.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I have no ideal how my small but growing business was found to do an interview, but I’m grateful!
