Check Out Lana Luxx’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lana Luxx.

Hi Lana , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am born in raised in Kansas City Missouri. I grew up in the northland. I was Missouris first transgender woman to win homecoming queen in Missouri in 2015 at Oak Park High School. That’s where I really got my start with advocacy and my online presence. Then when I was 18 I started working at Hamburger Mary’s KC which is a restaurant famous for its drag shows. After working there it wasn’t long till I started to also perform and become a drag artist as well. Now I am almost ten years in to my drag career. I just won the Pitch KC’s best drag artist and best drag show “Luxx Sunday” at Missie B’s. I am the entertainment director at Hamburger Mary’s and am lucky enough to work all over town. I was just first alternate at the Miss Continental pageant in Chicago last summer.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
BABY NO. I wish but it’s definitely been a journey. It was pretty hard coming to terms with my transness and deciding to come out and start my transition in highschool. I was even protested by West Borrow Baptist church when I won home coming queen. At first my mom was very hesitant and confused but with time and education she did come around. She is my best friend now and has come with me to every surgery I’ve ever had.
Drag has been a long journey to. When I first started there wasn’t a that many trans woman performing, in power, or even hosting. So it felt like I was having to kick down a lot of doors and shove my way in. Constantly having to prove myself,

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full time drag artist/showgirl. My Taylor Swift illusion and drag shows I throw in Kansas City though have really been a big part of my journey and success as well. It’s been so amazing cause I have sold out countless events and have really built a community within the Swiftie community and it makes me so so so happy! It’s how opened doors cause I also do a Sabrina illusion, Zara Larsson and even Chappell Roan!

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love how diverse Kansas City is! There truly is something for everyone out here!
I hate that there is still a lot of hate towards the queer community here.
