Inspiring Conversations with McKenzie Stanley of Driftwood Ceramics

Today we’d like to introduce you to McKenzie Stanley.

Hi McKenzie , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Driftwood Ceramics was created in 2018 by Husband & Wife, Ken and McKenzie Stanley. McKenzie has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Truman State University, focusing in ceramics. Ken has a Bachelor in Fine Arts Degree from University of Missouri, focusing in Painting.

After graduating college, they both worked in different studios around the country and decided to open their own!
Together they created Driftwood Ceramics for art lovers and admirers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any new business, there were some obstacles we needed to jump through to get things moving. We opened late in the year 2018, so we were only a business for about a year or so when Covid hit and we needed to close our doors awhile.

Luckily we had amazing support from friends, family and art lovers that really helped us get through!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Driftwood Ceramics welcomes students with a variety of classes, including date night classes, private classes, month-long classes, kids classes, and company events.

We also accommodate artists who have a desire to work on personal artwork. We provide memberships to individuals (at our NKC location) who have worked in studios previously and who have an understanding of the medium.

The studio is also equipped with work tables, potters wheels, glazes, tools and supplies!

What does success mean to you?
I define success in business as overcoming your obstacles and learning from your journey. Things come and go and you have to adapt to the next thing in order to keep moving forward. Whether that be equipment failing, new competitors opening around you, etc. It’s all about staying true to who you are and keeping your vision alive!
