Life & Work with MEGAN REED of National

Today we’d like to introduce you to MEGAN REED.

MEGAN, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have been an avid solo-traveler since college and I love planning trips. I realized there was a way for me to help others who maybe love the adventure but hate the planning, so I started the journey to being a travel advisor!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One big struggle has been navigating all the different options there are. Lots of time spent training and learning about the best selections for each person.

Another struggle is people not understanding how travel advising works. I have had a few times where I have done the research and provided the options, only to have that person go and book things on their own. That means I ended up doing all the work for free. My clients don’t pay me anything, I get paid on commission from the places I am booking for them. So please let me book it! Haha

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in solo and LGBTQIA+ friendly travel, but I have also planned cruises and all-inclusive vacations. Having traveled so much on my own, I think I have a unique advantage of knowing where is safe to be and when you should splurge vs. save for the best experience.

Any big plans?
I am moving to Philadelphia next year and am looking forward to starting over in a new city and part of the US! But all my travel advising can be done virtually so I still plan to help anyone and everyone who wants it.
