Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Mayfield.
Hi Kyle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been a diesel mechanic since 2002 and have spent more than two decades working in the industry. During that time, I helped build and operate two successful businesses while continuing to grow my skills as a mechanic.
In 2023, I decided to take a different path and started my own business as a semi-truck driver. I specialized in hauling vehicles across the country and enjoyed traveling, especially to the northern states. While I loved the work and the freedom of the road, being away from home made me realize how much I missed my wife, our five kids, and our granddaughter.
At the beginning of this year, I made the decision to return to my roots in diesel repair and performance. I opened Redemption Road Diesel to combine my years of experience, passion for diesel equipment, and commitment to serving customers with honest, quality work. Today, I’m doing what I love while staying close to the people who matter most.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been an easy road, and in many ways, I’m still working through the challenges of building a business from the ground up. Right now, I’m working seven days a week. Many of my customers are friends from the over-the-road trucking industry, and because they need their trucks during the week, I do my best to schedule repairs on weekends. It’s not uncommon for me to put in days that start at 7 a.m. and end around 11 p.m. just to keep up with demand and make ends meet.
One of the biggest challenges has been getting my name back out there, but it’s also been one of the biggest blessings. Word has spread quickly, and social media has played a huge role in helping new customers find me. Every phone call and every repair is an opportunity to earn someone’s trust. More than anything, I want people to know me as an honest, hardworking mechanic who does quality work at a fair price. Integrity means everything to me, and I want my customers to see that in every job I do.
The long hours can be exhausting, but one of the reasons I returned to diesel repair was to be closer to my family. My wife does an incredible job wearing all the hats when it comes to getting our two youngest kids to their year-round baseball and volleyball activities. Being home means I can be part of the games, practices, and everyday moments that I missed while I was on the road. Being present for my family while building a business I’m proud of makes all the hard work worthwhile.
At the end of the day, success for me isn’t just about growing a business—it’s about serving people well, earning their trust, and still being there for the people I love most.
We’ve been impressed with Redemption Road Diesel Performance and Repair , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Redemption Road Diesel is based in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and specializes in diesel performance and repair. With more than 20 years of experience in the industry, I work on a wide variety of equipment and vehicles, including heavy equipment, agricultural machinery, trailers, pickup trucks, semi-trucks, and other diesel-powered vehicles.
What sets me apart is my commitment to treating customers the way I would want to be treated. I’m known for being honest, working with integrity, and doing everything I can to meet my customers’ deadlines. I don’t believe in taking advantage of people or selling repairs they don’t need. My goal is to provide quality work at a fair price and build long-term relationships based on trust.
The thing I’m most proud of is the opportunity to help people get their equipment and vehicles back up and running. Whether it’s a farmer needing a tractor, a truck driver needing to get back on the road, or a contractor with a machine that’s down, I understand how important that equipment is to their livelihood. Being able to solve those problems and help keep their businesses moving is what drives me every day.
I want readers to know that at Redemption Road Diesel, they’re getting more than just a repair shop. They’re getting someone who is willing to work with their schedule, communicate honestly, stand behind their work, and charge fair labor rates. My goal is simple: provide dependable service, earn trust, and keep customers coming back because they know they’ll be treated right
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people is that I’m a father of five and a proud grandfather. My kids have always called me the “fixer of all things,” and over the years I’ve also earned the nickname “the janitor” because I seem to spend a lot of time cleaning up messes—whether that’s broken equipment, tough problems, or things that didn’t go as planned.
A lot of people know me for diesel repair, but family is what keeps me grounded. If I’m not in the shop, you’ll usually find me at a baseball field or volleyball court supporting my kids. And when I’m not there, I’m probably at home spending time with my granddaughter, who always knows how to put a smile on my face.
At the end of the day, my business is built around the same values I try to live by at home: showing up, working hard, helping people when they need it, and leaving things better than I found them.
