Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke And Paul Harwerth.
Hi Luke and Paul, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up in a small town in northern Nebraska, We didn’t have much to do, but that gave us uncountable opportunities to try new and different hobbies. We also had incredible supportive parents that wanted us to try everything with the hopes that we would find things that we’re personally passionate about. It was through that adventurous spirit that our love for film making and dance was born!
In 2012, in a dark dorm room during our sophomore of college when the YouTube Channel TwinSauce was born, and that was the basecamp for our social media for the next 8 years. During that time we learned a lot and were given many opportunities from filming documentaries to hosting red carpets, but there wasn’t a lot of follower growth, as nothing we did really went viral. It was hard to grown in an era that was so dependent on link sharing and email lists.
This all changed during the late 2019 and early 2020 craze of TikTok and short form video. We started posting here and there on TikTok in January of 2020 and as soon as the pandemic hit, we knew we had found our place! We’re so grateful that that account grew steadily but not to fast. It helped us understand how to value our platform and understand how to work with brands on a smaller scale before moving into larger brand conversations! We were also able to pinpoint that joy was the name of our game and the main thing we were bringing to the table! To this day the main thing we hear from our fans and casual followers is that they follow because of the joy that comes through our videos, and that is the highest praise we could ask for!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not! It’s a tough life full of high highs and low lows. One day we’re on top of the world and feel like nothing could touch us, and the next the algorithm has decided we are irrelevant and refuses to show you to anyone. We are constantly gambling with video ideas, partnerships, collaborations, and flirting with algorithms to get videos seen and any one of those elements and aid or destroy you. It really is like playing with fire but that’s also the thrill right? Like every video is an attempt to connect with someone and bring them a little bit more joy into their day. Regardless of the video, that’s always the goal, and even if it only reaches one person, doesn’t that make it worth it. It’s truly the most humbling job, and we wouldn’t change it for anything.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are public figures online known for creating art across many different platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook. We are professional dancers by trade, but turned that into a marketing business that allows us to sell our influence and skills in video production to create ads and share them on our accounts. It’s basically like running your own tv channel except you’re also creating the ads that go on your channel and those ads fund the rest of the fun projects and art we produce. There is only pennies made from views which is a common misconception. Many people think views are how you pay the bills but that couldn’t be future from the truth. We’ve been so blessed to be able to do this full time for 4 years and we hope it doesn’t slow down any time soon.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Kansas City is HOME. We travel a lot, but coming home, flying into the new airport, and driving into downtown feels like a cocoon of safety and familiarity that is unmatched. I love downtown. It’s walkability, the food, the skyline, the nature that surrounds the city, the people, I could go on.
My least favorite thing is the fact that we don’t have better trains/subways to get Kansas Citians around the city/subburbs/airport.
