Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Hicks.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2019 my supervisor at the time asked what I enjoyed doing in my free time. When I responded reading, he challenged me to write. He had no idea that becoming an author was my childhood dream that I pushed aside years and years ago.
So I began with writing a blog. A month or so in, I was “doodling” during a meeting and wrote a poem that turned into publishing an anthology of poetry. Soon after, I published two devotionals before taking a leap of faith and published my first novel.
The Colorado Killer, a crime thriller was published in 2022 followed by two more novels to finish the trilogy and a romantic thriller standalone, The Dark Side of Everly Manor.
I’ve since transitioned into writing romantic cozy mysteries with my current novel set to release April 2027.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The actual writing has been rather smooth, minus the occasional writers block. As an Indie Author though, I am responsible for all the edits, cover design, & marketing. Which all takes a different skill set than writing, especially marketing. I’ve had to learn a lot about SEO, social media marketing, & in-person events.
While writing The Dark Side of Everly Manor, I found out I was pregnant so all writing and marketing fell to the back burner. Once I was ready to start back up, I realized I had lost all reader momentum and have had to start over again.
Writing my current novel while remaining to market my previous novels has probably been the biggest learning curve but it’s also been the most fun!

I am an Indie Author who writes romantic cozy mysteries. Although I have four thriller novels currently published.
I am currently writing a romantic cozy mystery series with the first novel set to publish in April 2027.
Readers can expect small-town, clean romances filled with secrets, mystery, and heart. I love creating close-knit communities, layered characters, and stories that remind readers that everyone has a story, and sometimes a secret, to uncover. What sets my books apart is the blend of charming small-town settings, intriguing mysteries, and heartfelt romance, creating stories that keep readers guessing while giving them characters to root for and endings that leave them hopeful.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Becoming an author has been a dream of mine since I was 6 years old. But I never believed it could be possible. If it wasn’t for my supervisor challenging me to write, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today.
Since then, I have had an amazing support system that includes my husband, parents, sister, and friends. All of whom encourage me every day to keep going. My mom & sister are my sounding board, listening to idea after idea. My sister is also my editor while friends serve as my first line of beta readers.
