Check Out Char’vez Johnson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Char’vez Johnson.

Hi Char’vez, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story starts in Kansas City, Kansas. Born in KU Hospital to Carolyn Davis & Carl Johnson. They met at a Kool & The Gang concert in 79’. My mother recognized my father from a news article about a devastating house fire in 75’ that claimed the lives of 2 of my aunts and my uncle. All under the age of 6. I spent my childhood years on the South Side of Chicago. My mother bought me toy instruments as a kid. She grew up singing in church. And I fell in love with music listening to her sing songs from Sade’, Anita Baker, Stephanie Mills to name a few. I started recording music back in high school. And would go on to release underground mixtapes. Touring the Midwest performing and selling cds. I started my entertainment company in 2018. Music has always been a passion of mine. My children want to create music of their own and that’s my next journey in life. To help them with their music careers.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Learning how to run a business comes with a-lot of costly lessons. There’s a-lot to learn and experience has been a great teacher for me. From doing business with others, learning about how business taxes work, royalties, advertising, marketing and more. I also work a 9-5 and still trying to balance my business, work, being a husband and father. But it’s helping to shape me into the man I’ve always wanted to be.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m the owner of Black Dave LLC. Formally known as Black Medellin Music LLC. I recently changed my business name to honor my grandfather who passed in 2003. He believed in my passion for music and it’s only right to honor him and keep his name alive.

I am a song writer, producer & engineer. I’ve shared the stage with the likes of Keak Da Sneak, Starlito, Don Trip & Kansas City legend Tech N9ne. I’m proud of my growth not only as an artist but as a man. I express my experiences and growth through my music.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I feel like doing your due diligence of finding yourself. Figuring out who you are, what exactly do you want, what’s your passion and figuring out how to monetize it. Doing some soul searching is very vital to me to set a foundation for yourself. Being grounded will help attract like minded individuals.
