Meet EleveN2wenty2 of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to EleveN2wenty2.

Hi EleveN2wenty2, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We began singing in church like most notable R&B vocalists. That’s where we began shaping and nurturing our on-stage chemistry. Each of us went away to college to sharpen our skills and gain degrees in music and communication. In 2018, Darius gave JaNay and Kai a call to sing background for a show and it was the first time we realized we could be compensated for our vocal talents. This is how we came to be called EleveN2wenty2. Its a triple entendre for November 22nd with the “N” and “22” in the spelling representing the date and the number as a whole represents a divine message to trust your intuition, step out of your comfort zone, and embrace your manifestations. This perspective has led all of our decision making and our journey has been full of rewarding and exciting opportunities.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We certainly have not had a smooth road.

The challenges we’ve faced are not unique to us. A lot of artists have to figure out schedules, acquire equipment, pay for studio time, mixing, mastering, finding locations to rehearse, marketing, taxes, and showing the audience and promoters that we are worth their time and energy. We’re grateful to have the mindset to overcome every challege. Some things are ongoing challenges such as changing your marketing strategies to match the desires and needs of your audience and adjusting to the ever-shifting algorithm, but we are excited to shift alongside it and keep pushing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
EleveN2wenty2 is a multi-genre and interdisciplinary vocal trio. We are known for our clean vocal blend, creative arrangements, professional background vocals, and hilarious personalities. We are also known for delivering exhilarating performances that match the venue and event we are playing.

We are most proud to have self-produced two shows and a summer series. In these spaces, we put our original music and cover arrangements on display and our community came out to support us! We are currently in our summer series with Lemonade Park. Our next show is Saturday, June 27. We partnered with Social Spark Co to present a speed dating event before the show since the theme is Rhythm and Romance. Tickets are available at www.eleven2wenty2.com. Our next installments are Friday, July 31 and Friday August 28 and those are also at Lemonade Park.

What sets us apart from others is our chemistry on stage. Like most artists, we are well rehearsed and well planned. However, we recognize that there are some things outside of our control and we are able to lock in enough to improvise through it in a way that keeps the audience engaged and enjoying the show.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
When it comes to the success we’ve had as a group, there are a lot of people that deserve credit.

First and foremost, we give credit to our faith. Our belief system kept us going when nothing else could or would.

Next, our families! Shout out to Janna Smith, Antonio Adgers, Simone Adgers, Adrian Adgers, Nia Manning, Tre Manning, Taj Manning, Jacqui Anderson, Shiori Sheppard, and Jeralina Sheppard.
