Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Sinclair.
Hi Joshua, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out playing the guitar at 10 years old. Took lessons for 6 years, started a band in high school and played some shows around my hometown. Went to college for a year to study music but I was more interested in performing and touring rather than learning how to teach music so I moved out to the east coast. Started playing shows up and down the coast from NYC to Philly and all spots in between for a few years. Moved back to the midwest after a couple of years and started up a band with my younger brother (drums). We started writing and releasing independent albums, touring regionally for a few years and then did our first national tour in 2001, a coast-t0-coast 35-date tour, all put together, booked and funded by ourselves. Kept writing and releasing albums, touring, etc until we caught the attention of a record label in NYC in late 2003. Signed with Mutiny 2k Records and released a 6-song EP. Toured some more, kept writing and releasing new music, doing showcases for bigger labels such as Atlantic and Universal. Signed a developmental deal with Universal Motown in 2007. Released another EP through that label. Again, toured, kept writing and releasing more material. Signed a few more developmental deals with a couple of other labels until 2010. At around that time, I began doing more solo shows and started incorporating live looping into my sets. No pre-recorded tracks, all in real time. I started releasing more music and albums as a solo artist (JOSHUA SINCLAIR) and continued to tour, open for major artists, etc. I just released my 18th album this past April 2026 entitled “Dirty Dirty” and still tour over 200+ dates a year.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been those challenging moments; getting dropped by labels, getting records shelved and not released, struggles with addiction within the band and then touring mostly solo now gets lonely at times on the road. But through it all, I love the adversity because it helps me to grow, to appreciate those really great shows and tours, to continue to get ideas for songs through the places I go and the people I meet. There is nothing I’d change because I’m getting to live out my dream of playing music for a living.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in live looping. Doing everything in real time, no pre-recorded tracks. Live looping brings an energy to my one-man-band shows and I’m able to incorporate different instruments and create incredible dynamics live. I try and do as much on my own as I can. I built a recording studio in my house years ago and have released multiple albums from that studio. I’ve learned videography and graphic design so I can edit and release music videos, professional photos, promo, etc. I’ve never been one to follow trends but rather blaze my own path in the way I dress, the songs I write, & the way I present those songs live. Trends come and go and I don’t play the compare game to what others might sound like. I’ve found my sound, my style, and I live what I write.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My dog, Beau. He was a cocker spaniel. He was there when my brothers and I grew up. Taught me genuine love at a young age. I’ve always been thankful for all the pets I’ve had throughout my life, even the ones I lost along the way. Taught me how to laugh and to grieve, and to always be thankful for the moments.
