Today we’d like to introduce you to Ann Owens ✨Fabulous Annie✨.
Hi Ann, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Ann Owens, and many people know me as Fabulous Annie. I was born an American citizen but raised in Nigeria, in the village of Agbarho in Delta State. Growing up, I was inspired by my father, who was the only medical doctor in our community. Watching him care for others planted in me a deep love for science, medicine, and service. I later returned to the United States and pursued my education in the medical field, including attending medical school. At the same time, I was building a family with my husband and our children. The most transformative chapter of my life began during my pregnancy with my son, who was diagnosed with Down syndrome. That period was one of the hardest seasons I have ever experienced. I was seeing multiple doctors, had to step away from medical school to focus on my pregnancy, and was confronted with many frightening predictions about what my son’s future might look like. I was told his life would be uncertain, that there could be endless medical challenges, and I was even asked whether I wanted to continue the pregnancy. But I had prayed for my son, and in my heart I believed that God would not give me a child I was not meant to love and care for. When he was born, I made a promise that he would be loved, celebrated, and cared for with dignity. That experience changed me. I realized how many parents, especially mothers, carry fear, guilt, and uncertainty while trying to stay strong for their families. Out of that season, I created Fabulous Annie. It began as a source of encouragement for myself during a very difficult time, but it quickly became a platform to encourage other mothers, families, and anyone facing challenges. My message was simple: don’t give up hope. Keep a positive mindset. Take care of yourself. Believe that your life is not over because of a difficult diagnosis, a setback, or an unexpected turn. What started as a personal encouragement page grew into a broader lifestyle and media brand. Today, I host The Fabulous Annie Show, create content across multiple social media platforms, work as an influencer and brand ambassador, and cover events such as Kansas City Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week. I also run online stores, produce podcasts, and share recommendations about fashion, entertainment, restaurants, and life in Kansas City. Through all of it, my greatest joy is bringing people joy. Whether I am sharing a fashion find, interviewing a guest, highlighting a local business, or encouraging a parent who feels overwhelmed, my goal is to remind people that they are stronger than they think. Fabulous Annie was born from a season of fear, uncertainty, and prayer. Today, it stands as a reminder that difficult moments can become the foundation for purpose, community, and hope.Today, I am a scientist, media personality, entrepreneur, mother of six, and creator of the Fabulous Annie brand, but my greatest accomplishment will always be using my story to inspire hope in others.”
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road. Like many people, my journey has included challenges, setbacks, heartbreak, and moments when I questioned whether I could keep going.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was during my pregnancy with my son, who was diagnosed with Down syndrome before birth. I was seeing multiple doctors and was given many frightening predictions about what his future might look like. As a mother, it was an emotional and overwhelming experience. I had to step away from medical school to focus on my health and pregnancy, and I found myself facing uncertainty about both my son’s future and my own.
At the time, I felt isolated and afraid. I was being told about potential medical complications, hospitalizations, and limitations, but I chose to focus on faith instead of fear. Looking back, that season became one of the greatest turning points of my life because it led me to create Fabulous Annie, a platform dedicated to encouraging others and spreading hope.
Another challenge was balancing multiple roles at once. I am a wife, mother of six children, scientist, entrepreneur, content creator, and media personality. Building a brand while raising a large family has required tremendous sacrifice, discipline, and time management. There were many days when I was exhausted, overwhelmed, and unsure whether my efforts would ever pay off.
As an immigrant raised in Nigeria and later building my life in the United States, I also faced cultural adjustments, financial challenges, and the pressure of creating opportunities for myself and my family. There were moments when doors did not open as quickly as I hoped and opportunities did not always come easily.
I also experienced personal loss. During the final semester of my Master’s degree program, my brother passed away from pancreatic cancer. Completing my degree while grieving was incredibly difficult, but it taught me resilience and reminded me of the importance of perseverance even during life’s most painful moments.
Through every challenge, my faith has been my foundation. I have learned that setbacks do not define us; how we respond to them does. Every obstacle I faced helped shape the woman I am today. The struggles taught me compassion, resilience, gratitude, and the importance of encouraging others who may be facing their own battles.
If there is one lesson I have learned, it is that difficult seasons do not last forever. Sometimes the very thing that feels like your greatest challenge becomes the foundation for your greatest purpose.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I would describe myself as a healthcare provider, scientist, media personality, entrepreneur, content creator, and motivational storyteller. Professionally, I have built a career that combines my passion for science, communication, and inspiring others.
I went to medical school , earned a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences and have a strong background in healthcare and medical sciences. At the same time, I discovered a passion for media, storytelling, and connecting with people. Today, I am the creator and host of The Fabulous Annie Show, where I interview guests, discuss lifestyle topics, celebrity news, fashion, entertainment, and share motivational content designed to uplift and encourage others.
I am also a social media influencer, brand ambassador, podcast host, and entrepreneur. Through my platforms, I have worked with national and local brands, covered major events such as New York Fashion Week and Kansas City Fashion Week, and built a community centered around positivity, confidence, and personal growth. I host two podcasts, The Fabulous Annie Show and Let’s Talk with Fabulous Annie, and I operate multiple online businesses, including my Amazon storefront, Etsy shop, TikTok Shop, and print-on-demand stores.
What I specialize in is helping people find joy, confidence, and hope through storytelling. Whether I am sharing fashion inspiration, interviewing a guest, highlighting local businesses, discussing entertainment, or encouraging a parent facing challenges, my goal is always the same: to make people feel seen, inspired, and empowered.
What I am most proud of is creating Fabulous Annie from one of the most difficult periods of my life. What began as a way to encourage myself after learning my son would be born with Down syndrome grew into a platform that has touched thousands of people. Instead of allowing fear and uncertainty to define me, I chose to create something positive that could help others navigate their own challenges.
What sets me apart is authenticity. I am not just sharing the highlights of life; I share the journey. My audience has seen me as a mother raising six children, a scientist pursuing higher education, a caregiver, an entrepreneur, and a woman who has faced setbacks but continued to move forward. I believe people connect with honesty, and I strive to show that success is not about perfection—it’s about resilience.
At the heart of everything I do is my desire to bring people joy. Whether through a smile, a story, a fashion recommendation, a podcast episode, or a word of encouragement, I want people to leave my platforms feeling better than they did before. If I can inspire someone to believe in themselves, pursue their dreams, or find hope during a difficult season, then I consider my work a success.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I would like readers to know that no dream is too big and no obstacle is too great to overcome. Many people see the highlights of someone’s life, but they don’t always see the challenges, setbacks, sacrifices, and moments of doubt behind the scenes.
My journey has taught me that life doesn’t always go according to plan, but sometimes God’s plan is even greater than our own. Some of the experiences that once brought me fear and uncertainty became the very things that gave me purpose and direction.
I want people, especially women, mothers, caregivers, and anyone going through a difficult season, to know that they are stronger than they think. Take care of yourself. Celebrate your victories, no matter how small. Don’t be afraid to dream big, travel, pursue your education, start a business, reinvent yourself, or chase a goal that seems impossible.
As a scientist, mother of six, entrepreneur, content creator, and founder of Fabulous Annie, I have learned that happiness is something we intentionally create. It comes from gratitude, faith, self-care, and choosing to find joy even during challenging times.
My greatest joy is bringing joy to others. Whether through a kind word, an encouraging message, a fashion tip, a podcast episode, a social media post, or simply making someone smile, I hope to leave people feeling inspired and hopeful.
I am living proof that dreams can come true. From a little girl raised in Nigeria to building a life, family, and career in America, I have learned that with faith, hard work, and perseverance, extraordinary things are possible.
My message is simple: Dream it. Believe it. Achieve it. And never stop believing that your best days are still ahead of you.
