Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Ollie.
Hi Marcus, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey toward who I am today was defined by early experiences of isolation and a search for purpose. Growing up, I often felt misunderstood and struggled to find a sense of direction. Without the presence of a father figure and with my mother working tirelessly to support our family, I began seeking validation and direction in the wrong places. My aptitude for numbers and desire for connection eventually led me down a path that provided a sense of status and misplaced confidence. However, I quickly learned the cost of that path: the volatility, the paranoia, and the extreme danger that came with it.
The turning point was my time in the justice system. Being separated from my family, and most importantly my son, forced me to confront the reality of my choices. I realized that my life had to change.
However, upon my release, I encountered the harsh reality of systemic barriers. Navigating life with a conviction record proved to be an exhausting, uphill battle. From housing to employment, I faced constant rejection, which led me into a profound state of despair. I found myself becoming another statistic—a young Black man attempting to re-enter society only to find that the doors were locked against me.
Yet, within that struggle, I found my mission. I have always deeply valued empathy, respect, and the principle of treating others as we wish to be treated. Experiencing firsthand how quickly society judges an individual based on a past mistake(s) sparked a realization: we are all human, and we are all prone to error. If we are defined solely by our worst moments, the possibility of growth is denied to us all.
I began to think of the countless others—those marginalized by society, judged for circumstances beyond their control, or disregarded simply for who they are. Society is often too quick to write off individuals without understanding their full story. This realization is the foundation of my work.
The moral of my story is that we are all “created equally different.” We all deserve to be heard, we all deserve to be met with compassion, and, most importantly, we all deserve to be treated as human beings. This belief is the heartbeat of L.Y.L.A.H. (Love You Like A Human).
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey wasn’t built on a smooth path; it was forged through isolation, survival, and systemic barriers. Growing up without a father figure, I channeled my natural aptitude for numbers into the volatile and dangerous world of the streets just to find connection and status. The turning point came through the justice system—a painful period of separation from my family and my son that forced a reckoning. But the toughest road began after my release. Facing the harsh, unforgiving realities of reentry as a young Black man with a record, I hit constant walls in housing and employment, navigating a system seemingly designed to keep doors locked. It was in that profound despair that my mission was born. Having felt the weight of a society quick to write people off based on their worst moments, L.Y.L.A.H. (Love You Like A Human) implemented within me. My past obstacles taught me a fundamental truth: we are all “created equally different,” and everyone deserves to be met with empathy, dignity, and a second chance.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an entrepreneur, brand manager, and creative strategist focused on building mission-driven ventures and impactful visual identities. My work specializes in taking raw, purposeful concepts and turning them into complete brand narratives, specialized marketing campaigns, and community-focused apparel collections.
I am most proud of my resilience and my ability to manifest vision into tangible reality. I have faced significant personal and systemic hurdles, but instead of letting them define me, I used them as fuel to build my own path as an independent entrepreneur. I am proud of the fact that I build businesses entirely on my own terms, creating meaningful collaborations and putting work out into the world that champions dignity and growth. Taking a concept from a completely blank canvas and turning it into a physical, successful venture—while staying uncompromisingly true to my values—is my greatest achievement.
What sets me apart is the unique perspective I bring to the table. I have navigated diverse, high-stakes environments, which allows me to connect with people from all walks of life and speak their language. I don’t look at branding or business superficially; I look at the exact mechanics of how things work. My ability to combine analytical execution with a deep, authentic understanding of human connection allows me to build brands that don’t just sell, but actually stand for something.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I am always looking to connect with like-minded creators, businesses, and organizations that value authenticity, high-level strategy, and purposeful design. Here are the primary ways we can cross paths:
Brand Strategy & Consultations: If you have a raw concept, a startup idea, or an existing business that needs a sharper visual identity and market positioning, I consult on brand management, narrative building, and campaign execution.
Creative Collaborations & Partnerships: I love working with other designers, local businesses, and agencies on limited-edition apparel capsules, co-branded drops, or community-focused marketing initiatives. If your brand stands for human connection, dignity, and pushing boundaries, we can build something impactful together.
Supply Chain & Venture Logistics: With a strong focus on the technical and analytical side of business—from numbers and market data to production mechanics—I am open to partnering with individuals looking for operational insight or looking to co-invest in innovative, scalable business ventures.
